I started reading "Blushing At Both Ends", and I could not put it down! It was Wonderful!!
I've been a Big Fan of Mr. Kemp's writing for some time, and was thrilled when I heard there was an entire book of his stories. His fondness for spanking is evident in the way he writes. Each of his stories is a Delicious Treat.....Sexy, Naughty and Exciting! But they are also Sensual and Loving! All the key components to a Good Spanking, or Spanking Story! If you love to have your Bottom Spanked, or just love to read spanking stories that leave your bottom "Tingling", then you'll LOVE "Blushing At Both Ends!"

I enjoyed Blushing at Both Ends--not one of the very best books of erotica I've ever read, but there were certainly some hot stories, if you're a fan of spanking! It was a little hit and miss--some of the stories were great, others left me less enthused, but I suppose that's to be expected with any anthology. There was a good variety of characters and stories, which I enjoyed, however the writing was incredibly repetitive. That might just be one of the hazards of reading a collection of stories all by the same author. By the end of the book I began to roll my eyes every time I saw the phrase "rearward curves" repeated. However, if that's an issue, perhaps it might be solved by spacing out one's reading of each story. There are definitely stories in here I will go back and read again, though some I will probably skip over in future readings. All in all, it has some issues, but if you're a spanko, you should find something to enjoy from this book!

If this is the best, what must the worst be like?,

I know that spanking fiction occupies a small, shady alcove of the literary world, and that it is not to be compared with the greats of mainstream fiction. Even so, does it have to be quite so poor?
Blushing at Both Ends was a very frustrating read. I enjoy the idea of sensual spanking, and the escapism of pretend disciplinary spanking, and I want a book that deals with these things to carry me off into an enjoyable fantasy. When that book continually shatters the illusion through grating repetition (I ended up playing spot the 'mound'), stupid plotting*, feeble characterisation and downright bad writing, I find myself annoyed rather than titillated. Not the desired result. *The worst has to be the story where a bank manager takes an indebted young woman into his home and spanks her. His wife walks in on them and thinks that this is perfectly fine. And joins in. And the spanked woman (who we learn is going to be unwittingly 'kept' in her sleazy new life longer than she realises) thinks that this is fine, too. Such disregard for plausibility in a fictional setting THAT IS OTHERWISE SET UP TO BE REALISTIC just makes the whole enterprise feel stupid. And it makes me feel stupid for having read it. Maybe it's just my taste - many will probably enjoy it greatly - but this book left me seriously cold. |
