On the plus side, this book describes the innards of the K bike in exquisite detail. There are also some nice narrative descriptions of systems (the essay on the fuel injection/air induction is a personal favorite). So simply reading the book is very helpful to do before, during, and after wrenching.

On the minus side, the index is so inadequate that it would have been better to omit it entirely, and the table of contents gives only vague guidance about where to find specific information. The text (i.e. the narrative descriptions of procedures) constantly refers the user to procedures described in other chapters, but the book gives the reader no help locating the referenced sections. How much would it have cost the publisher to put in an adequate index, or cross-reference specific pages?

Secondly on the minus side, the book doesn't describe how to service a K bike so much as how to disassemble it, without regard to time spent or tools needed. Comparing the information available on the many K bike forums with what's in the book will reveal many shortcuts and timesavers that are known to people who regularly service these machines (especially ingenious shade-tree mechanics) but not known to the authors of this book.

In summary, I'm glad this book exists, grateful to own it, but sorry it's not easier to use and more pragmatic.
