A friend of mine that helped me fix up my old BMW has one of these, and we used it extensively as a reference, so I had to buy one. He has a couple of airheads himself and knows much about the general ideas behind the engine, but he does not have the same model as mine so we used this book for some of the specifications. I tend to like this book more than the Haynes manual, which my friend has as well. NOTE: I have read on some of the discussion forums that both the Clymer's and Haynes have a few errors/type-o's in them, and it is good to check multiple sources for any major job you have to do.

Great for R100GS info,

I needed a good book to detail the pieces of the R100GS fairing and control cluster, so I could re-assemble a bike that had been badly "customized" This manual had the diagrams, the pictures, and the wiring information I needed. Good history on the different BMW models in the preface as well.

If youre in the USA (the Haynes manual is prefered if you're in the UK) and need a thorough well diagrammed and photographed repair and maintance manual, this is it. It tells you all of the tools you'll need for each project and goes over maintance procedures and fault diagnosis step by step. An invaluable resource.

Clymer Manual Review,

I have a BMW R65LS. I needed a manual for self-service & maintenance of my motorcycle in a home garage (non commercial setting).
This is a large manual - 793 pages. I found the superb detail in the chapters extremely helpful. There are lots of good, clear diagrams supported with excellent photographs. Instructions are comprehensive and easy to follow. There is model specific information for working on the R65LS - which was my main intent. This manual with a parts catalogue is all the information you would need to keep your BMW motocycle on the road. I also use the BMW factory and the Haynes manuals. The Clymer typically has larger illustrations and photographs. Sections are laid out over more pages making it easier to follow. I highly recommend this manual.

I own an older BMW GS Airhead. I do all my maintenance and work, and this book has helped me do it! It is a must own if you own an Airhead.

The manual is complete and includes general information about the work to be performed but is often lacking in step by step specifics that would be helpful. In addition, the fact that so many different models are covered in one text can lead to some confusion.

Pretty comprehensive manual considering the range of models and years it covers. I recommend putting index tabs throughout the sections you're about ready to use that are applicable to you model. Good schematics, breakdowns and fairly clear photos.

I bought an old BMW that needed some TLC. I didn't want to take it to the mechanic for every little issue, and this book has helped me immensely. I found the diagrams helpful and the step by step instructions to be accurate. While I'm not much of a gear-head and I admit that other books may be more thorough this does everything I need and has lots of useful information. Thanks to this book, I've done some repairs that I would've thought previously were out of my ability, and I did them well.

I am doing a hasty restoration (if there is such a thing) on an R75/5. The book covers a ton, but I was left wanting more clarity on the suspension section. The manual covered so many models, that there was some time spent trying to figure out if my model had a certain part. After I marked it all up, hilighting and adding notes, it was perfect.
I gave it 4 stars, not because there wasn't enough info, but that I had to weed through it to get what I needed. I might like it better if it was sectioned more into specific models. More to come, as the restoration (slowly) progresses.

The manual is big and covers a lot. Good pictures and the info is easy to understand. It had my bikes special differences(R65 1980). I don't know how it compares to the real shop manual from BMW as I don't have that but for not so experienced to very experienced it has it all covered.
