The description for this item mentions you can write easily with chalk....but beware....this isn't a typical chalk board like you remember from school.....there's a reason this sells for such a small price......very poor quality...chalk can hardly be seen...be wary.....

I got this for a friend who gets excited whenever he writes on a chalkboard (he wants to be a teacher, what can I say) expecting it to be cool and smooth as the chalkboards I'm used to in class, but I was deceived. These chalkboards have a plastic, almost bumpy feel to them. The chalkboard is extremely thin (which can be a plus for children, since they are light and not dangerous during earthquakes and such). The chalkboard writes just fine, though, despite the odd not-chalkboard feel, the white chalk shows up bright and clear on the chalkboard.

I was expecting more of an authentic chalkboard feel, but if you're looking for just a black board to use chalk on, this is an okay, lightweight board to purchase. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

A good chalkboard for the money. I primed it as a commenter suggested in a previous review (by rubbing the side of chalk all over the board's surface). Afterward the chalk wrote on the board fine, and I pressed normally. Good value.

The chalkboard is just what I what I was looking for. It seems that all you can buy in the stores are the dry-erase boards. Not what I was looking for. Went to amazon.com and not only did I find the board I was looking for, but I got it at an AMAZING price. Definitely well worth it. Season the board with chalk first and it will work beautifully!

We purchased this for our playroom. It writes and erases just fine. The board is slightly warped as another reviewer noted, but it's actually not that noticeable when hung. The board wiggles at the bottom (only top mounts included), so we'll probably secure another way, as well. This board will be a lot of fun in our playroom. Not perfect, but sufficient and reasonably priced for "play" purposes.

This chalkboard is a fantastic value! My son loves it and it is the perfect size for his play corner. I browsed some stores before purchasing at Amazon and the prices for this size board were often double or more. We really love this chalkboard!

I'm 9 years old and I love to play teacher.My dad bought me this board and I love it.It hangs perfectly on the wall and the chalk looks great when I write on it.I did not have to fill the board with chalk first.This is a great chalk board.

Got this chalkboard for my kids' playroom since they love playing school. Mine did not come warped or defective in any way(as others commented)....I primed it before they used it and it works great. I don't know if the type of chalk used makes a difference but we have Seargant Art and Crayola...if that helps. Both the white and the colored sticks write smoothly and nicely. It works so well, I almost think I should have bought two- one for each girl :-). I would definitely recommend this product.

I should have known that "oak style" meant plastic, but the chalkboard has a pressboard frame covered with an oak sticker. I would have lived with that as my error, but I had to return it because it had been packed very loosely in a large box and two of the corners were smashed in.

I use this chalkboard with Chalk Ink markers. Works great! It has a beautiful wood frame. Looks nice and professional. Totally recommend!
