1.0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE!
Sure, it's a durible game, and the concept is ok, but there are only about 2 really good dinosaurs to be in the whole game! And since you only use one die, it takes about an hour to go around the board. An hour for a kids game! Let's try 15 minutes next time, LCG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought 'survival or extinction' the dinosaur game on a trip to the USA for my kids. My daughter is 6 years old and my son is 9, both are fascinated with dinosaurs. My wife and I played the game with our children, and i must say, that was one of the best activities we shared with our kids. I thought the game had an interesting angle of each one of us becoming a different dinosaur, and competing with each other, we definitely had our unique personalities and virtues. we were kidding each other for days later. The children remembered so much about different kinds of dinosaurs, their eating habits, their natural habitats and the challenges they faced to survive. It is rare to see a game which is so much fun and educational at the same time.

My students of 2nd through 4th grades loved this game.Survival And Extinction is a very unique game which gives the child the perspective of being a dinosaur who faces so many challenges for his survival. The child has to make intelligent decisions and understand the characteristics of the dinosaur he represent at the time. I found this game to be highly educational and fun at the same time It is one of the few games my students ask to play over and over again. Highly recommended for teachers and parents alike!.

As a science teacher, I'm always on the lookout for fun games that reinforce concepts. This game is fun-- my 3rd graders love it (and older: former students remembered the game three years later and asked to borrow it to play on a 6th grade free day!). It also teaches good science concepts, unlike many board games that have a science title but then just have the "roll and move" approach that has nothing to do with the concepts. Herbivores, carnivores, habitat, reproduction rate, natural disasters, speed and strength all affect your survival in this game! It used to be available only at specialty toy stores-- I'm glad to see it available here.

My five year old "bought" this for Christmas for his 9 year old brother, and we've played it almost every night. For younger kids, it's fun to move the dinosaur pieces around the colorful board and roll the dino-dice. For older kids, the facts about intelligence, speed, habitat, reproduction, adaptability, senses, defenses, and more really increase understanding about the dinosaurs. Plus, my sons have gotten into the habit of joyfully yelling "Attack! Attack!" whenever someone lands on a previously occupied space. The one thing that bothers me is that the food tokens are nothing more than punched-out square pieces of cardboard, and that the Challenge, Natural Disaster, and Attack cards are rather flimsy, uncoated cardboard... not very durable in the long run. Still, it's a sure thing for a dino-happy kid.

5.0 out of 5 stars This game is awesome!, February 12, 2003

My 5 year old received this game for Christmas. It is the best present received and has been played everyday since, many times a day! My 7 year old and 5 year old play together all the time -- both can read so it works out great (although there is a way to play without having to read). I enjoy playing it with them as well. Since you can assume a different dinosaur every time you play, the game is always different. I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a good game. If your kids are interested in dinosaurs, all the better. My only negative comment is that the board has already had to be taped up and the cards can get a little ratty (since my 2 boys are not the most careful!). Still worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for parents too!, March 14, 2003

We got this game for my five year old and we've been playing it every night after dinner. Its totally fun, especially if your getting bored with the whole chutes and ladders type games. We play the full version and we read the action cards to my son. You each play a dinosaur and that dinosaur has pluses and minuses depending on who they are (ie..TREX has great size and weapons but is slow and has below average intellegence). My son loves the part of saying "I am a spinosaurus! I live in the desert! I want a food token!" and he remembers EVERY time he is supposed to get that token in his habitat.

The game provides fun dinosaur and environmental learning and is great for building attention skills.

I am an 18 year old college student. My girlfriend and I went to a coffee shop after a movie that had this game. We really liked it and played it until the place closed. We had lots of fun, she got it for me for christmas. I may be over the age limit but I DONT CARE! It is a fantastic game... I like it ok.

This game is as much fun for parents as it is for the kids. It's very imaginative and can be played on many levels. I'd love to see more games of this type on the market.

My 4 year-old, now 5 year old, loves this game. There is a lot of reading required for the game but that doesn't hinder my son's enjoyment. The game challenges him to make good decisions and he likes choosing which dinosaur to be. I cannot recommend this game highly enough. Excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent game for the whole family, February 13, 2005
This review is from: Board Games: The Dinosaur Game (Toy)
My 7 year old got this for his 6th birthday and both he and his 5 year old brother really enjoy this game. We do as suggested in the rules and roll the dice twice to speed the game up when our youngest is playing. My children have discovered that often times the dinosaur who appears to be the weakest actually wins, so there is no fighting over who gets to be what dinosaur. For those families who prefer board games and reading over the tv, this is the game is for you. Yes, it requires a longer attention span than most games, but so does the average school classroom. CHEERS for a game that doesn't "talk down" to kids!!!
