About the Actor

Reiner Knizia is one of the leading authors and designers in the world of gaming. He has been designing games since he was 10 years old, and some of his best-known titles include Through the Desert, Tigris and Euphrates, Modern Art, and Lost Cities

Host Bob Schwartz has been a board game fanatic since the late 50s, when he started playing games like APBA/Stratomatic sports games, 3M Bookshelf games, and Avalon Hill simulations. In 1979, Bob's favorite pastime became his livelihood when he opened Games Unlimited, a game store in Pittsburgh, PA. On The Board Room Internet TV Show, Bob dedicated himself to spreading the word about independently-produced board games that most consumers wouldn't normally get to enjoy. Now, for the first time, the Board Room series is available on videotape!

Product Description

Game Designer Reiner Knizia discusses his game Lord of the Rings (Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast in the U.S.) with host Bob Schwartz. Based on the popular fantasy books by J.R.R. Tolkein, this game has received a lot of attention because its release coincides with the production of a Lord of the Rings movie, which is scheduled for release in 2001. The game is unique in that it is cooperative in nature: Players work together to defeat the dark forces controlled by the game, and win or lose as a group. Reiner briefly explains the trilogy of books and the components of the game. Lord of the Rings includes 5 game boards, which represent some of the major scenarios that make up the quest to destroy The One Ring. He also covers the basic play mechanics, examples of a player's turn, and an overall view of the adventure facing the participants. Group interaction and cooperation are very important, and occasional sacrifices in game play are sometimes necessary. He also describes some specific trouble spots on the various game board, and illustrates the inherent differences in playing as Sam, Frodo, Pippen and the rest of the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lord of the Rings board game, July 14, 2002

I read Mike Williams' review, and agree the rules that came with the game are ambigous. I'm a seasoned gamer, and sure we come to agreements on the rules after we've played it a few times.

But, I found more rules on the internet using Google, and have played the game several times using those clarifications. I really enjoy the game and will be buying the expansion.
