Editorial Reviews

From Scientific American

DO IT YOURSELF! There's a new book, Maui Boardbuilding & Repair by Bill Walters, that describes step by step how to construct and repair sailboards.

When Walters, an avid sailor living on Maui, decided to build his own board, he couldn't find any suitable books on the subject. So he knocked on the door of virtually every boardbuilding factory on the island and learned for himself the techniques of the pros.

According to the publisher, photos and tip from the pros including Ed Angulo, Dave Daly, Richard Greene, Jimmy Lewis, Dave Mel, Rick Naish, and Dennis Parton give readers the confidence to repair dings, replace broken fin boxes, and solve most repair problems.

From The New Yorker

Bill Walters has produced a fantastic book called Maui Boardbuilding & Repair. It's 120 pages of valuable information on building and repairing your own custom sailboard and repairs for production boards. It has step-by-step illustrations and exclusive inside the factory photos. It includes tip from the pros and a source guide for supplies. It is the best and easiest to understand.

This review is from: Maui Boardbuilding and Repair; Build and Repair Your Own Custom Sailboard [Easy Repair Section] (Paperback)
This is probably one of the only books in publication on building/repairing sailboards. It has detailed descriptions, suggestions on materials and nice pictures. This book has been around for a while so its a little out of date with respect to some newer construction materials (airex, cormat, divinicel) but the techniques they use can be applied to any of these materials with minimum modifications. I've owned this book for nearly 8 years and its been a big help with every repair I've made.
