Worst Picture Quality Ever, January 31, 2005
This review is from: Boarding School (DVD)
This DVD is presented in 1.33:1 and looks like someone took an old, very old, VHS copy that had been watched a few hundred times and copied it over to DVD format. Very grainy and extremely soft picture. The sound is spotty and muted.
The film itself is semi-decent late night cable fair, only stands out because Nastassja Kinski's 19 year old boobs.
This is for the DVD version with amazon.com's ASIN of B0000DG98R.

Beautiful young women, June 13, 2004
This review is from: Boarding School (DVD)
I saw this movie in the cinema many years ago. The movie shows Natassja Kinski at age 19 topless as well as other 2 or 3 young women (one a blue-eyed brunette even more beautiful than Natassja), also in several stages of nudity; in a tale of repressed girls at a private school in Europe, who try to get to know romance and possibly also sex, in secret, with the young men from a nearby boys private school. Only the beauty of the young women justifies the movie, which otherwise is rather cliche. Last year I bought a dvd from a different maker (Front Row Features) which did NOT play in my dvd player but DID PLAY in my computer's dvd drive. This DVD, however, played without problems in my DVD player. I gave it 3 stars because the quality of the transfer of its images to DVD is only moderate, and because the extent of the scenes of female beauty can not lift this movie any higher.

A complete waste of time., November 6, 2004
This review is from: Boarding School (DVD)
I purchased this DVD and it is very important to note that the quality is awful! The entire movie is fuzzy and a chunk of it had noticeable audio problems.
Irregardless of that, the film itself has no merit whatsoever. Kinski plays an American girl going to a German all-girl boarding school in the 1950's. (Other than some oldies rock 'n' roll songs, the time period plays virtually no part in the actual story). Across the river there is, unsurprisingly, an all-boys school.
"Boarding School" is about what all films of this type used to be about. The girls and boys want to get together and have sex. Kinski's character creates a club with four other girls and they offer their, ahem, "services" for a price to the boys across the way. Things usually don't go as planned and I guess that is then automatically labeled as comedy.
What it comes down to is that there isn't anything intelligent or humorous in this film. It markets itself as being a "sexy comedy" but it fails completely. In this case, "sexy" means seeing a couple of young women topless and a couple of guys' rear ends. A typical night of cable TV offers more spice than that.
The acting is difficult to gauge since the movie is dubbed. I despise dubbing because you don't get the emotional resonance of hearing an actor's true voice. That's not too relevant here though because the story is so thin and trite that the best actors in the world couldn't have saved it.
