MANY MISTAKES, don't believe everything you read.,
This review is from: Boards and Wards: A Review for USMLE Steps 2&3 (Boards and Wards Series) (Paperback)
This edition is OK if you can catch all of the several mistakes. THE FOLLOWING CORRECTIONS SHOULD BE MADE: 1. Table 1-33, Bart's is an abnormal hemoglobin composed of 4 gamma chains (not 4 Beta). 2. Table 1-37, IVIG is NOT a treatment for TTP but it IS a treatment for ITP. 3. Table 3-13, a benign tumor of the ovary is a cystadenOMA, NOT a cystadenoCARCINOMA. 4. Table 5-13, Dog bites that are "provoked" are LESS likely to be associated with rabies while unprovoked bites are more associated with rabies. 5. Table 1-15, Squamous cell carcinoma (not small cell as the book claims) is associated with hypercalcemia due to secretion of PTHrp. These mistakes are MAJOR. Who knows how many more there are. . .that I missed. If you can't trust SOME of the information, how can you trust ANY of it?

I used this book for Step2 CK. I had about a month to study, and read the book once in the first week and again skimmed it in the last few days. It reads relatively easily - though looks quite dense at first sight. Good charts/graphs. Did pretty well in the end, though don't know if it was the result of this book, Secrets, or the usmleworld qbank. But given the price, I think it's a great investment. Plus, I've heard it's great for Step 3 as well.

This book is amazing for USMLE Step 2CK. I used help me to get a 220 on the step 2. I love the appendix: Zebras + symdromes, Toxicology, Vit. + nutrition. It does have more information than First Aid, the cardiology part is EXCELLENT , know how to recognize murmurs! I like that they add case-based questions.

This review is from: Boards and Wards: A Review for USMLE Steps 2&3 (Boards and Wards Series) (Paperback)
There's Crush Step 2, First Aid, and about a bizillion others you can read to prepare for Step 2. I found this book to be concise and well-worth the price. The cardiology section I found to be particularly high yield (a nice step-by-step method on reading EKGs and common tracings). Although, there are some omissions and mistakes (as noted in other reveiws). One that was pointed out to me by an attending is that there are four (not three) types of renal tubular acidoses - the fourth being a congenital defect in carbonic anhydrase. So, I just penciled in the newly learned information and voila! - my book is a little more complete (and correct). Also fits in the coat pocket, which is great, and you can use it to review again during your intern year where Step 3 is the last thing you want to think about.

Outstanding review guide + it's FUNCTIONAL on rotations!,
This review is from: Boards and Wards: A Review for USMLE Steps 2&3 (Boards and Wards Series) (Paperback)
Buy it, take it to your local office supply store, get it wire bound with plastic covers for about $3-$4 and it'll last through your clinical years and internship. The only review book that can actually be carried in your white coat making it TRULY USEFUL on rotations. In fact, it's PERFECT for rotations as you can STUDY on the go whenever you have a few minutes PLUS it helps you with pimp questions and patient management. Psych, Derm, EKG, neuro, outpatient, IM, surgery and more.

As a third year medical student, this book offers a lot of hints and tid bits to guide you through your key rotations. I picked this up on the recommendation of one of my classmates in the class ahead of me... It is a very good book with excellent pictures and it is easy to use... I carry it with me at all times!

Great Book,
This review is from: Boards and Wards: A Review for USMLE Steps 2&3 (Boards and Wards Series) (Paperback)
It helps to get in shape for step 2 -3 and also briefly touches almost all things you will see on wards. 3rd Edition has also Pics and bigger letter size. I would consider the book as a must. Comes in also at a decent price.
