I purchased a few cartridges of LifeCaulk to install between the butt-jointed seams of 1"-thick Cypress bottom planks on the wooden skiff I'm building. Once I figured out how to set up the tube for easy dispensing (hint: drill an oversize hole in the tube itself, then adjust the product flow at the nozzle tip with an appropriately sized opening), it went on easily and stuck to anything it touched. I used light clamping pressure to secure the planks while I nailed them in place.

Several weeks later, I can see daylight through several of the seams, necessitating an expensive (in terms of both time and money) re-do of the bottom job. I've no idea whether it's the wood shrinking or the caulk shrinking or an installation error (i.e. not enough goo in the seams) - which is why I'm giving the product 3 stars instead of one. Seems like if it was the wood shrinking, I'd have the problem all over the boat - which I don't (not yet, at least). And since all the planks were installed at the same time, it seems like if it was an installation issue (i.e. not enough goo) then, again, I'd see the problem all over the place.

I used this caulk 15 years ago on my 1958 mahogany boat and it held up well. I'm using it again during a restoration of the same boat. The caulk sticks to wood better than anything else I've tried and does not shrink and stays elastic. It is not the easiest caulk to work with. As the directions say, it is a must to mask anything around the area to be caulked. The working time before it begins to skin over is short so planning ahead is important. Working in my dry garage, the caulk can take a week to cure fully.

I use this for bedding metal attachments to fiberglass decks. It's good for applications parts that you may someday need to remove.

Easy application for under the water line use.

Currently using on a wood boat as a covering over the cotton seams

Great product, fast shipping. Used to seal through hull fittings under water line and it did the trick.
