This review is from: The Boats of the "Glen Carrig": Being an Account of Their Adventures in the Strange Places of the Earth, After the Foundering of the Good Ship Gleof (Classics of science fiction) (Hardcover)
This is, in my opinion, one of the finest novels of pure adventure ever written. While weak on characterization and suffering from moments of irritating sentimentality, this work has an incredibly powerful sense of place and atmosphere, and the events unfold with a vivid believeability that could only come from an author who has had first-hand experience of danger. It unfolds with a delerious speed that is well suited to the modern reader, and there are plenty of nifty monsters. Highly reccomended.
