This is awesome. I didn't like it at first, but after a while I realized this was a masterpiece. The duet with Emmylou Harris is probably the best duet I have heard in ages. If you like good songwriting and artistry, you will like this. But please don't judge it until you have listened 10 or 12 times

Well, it's my favourite anyway.

First thing that struck me was the sound: sharp as a knife, right in the room, yet rich and comfortable. The band are as tight as anything, and the whole record feels like it was was put together by somebody who knew how to get exactly what they had in their mind.

Good songs too, all by Guy Clark of course. The title track is probably my favourite, and one of Guy's best ever songs. A very appealing combination of a great lyric, good chorus and neatly woven acoustic guitars.

I like the blues songs on this album too. Like How'd You Get This Number and Picasso's Mandolin - the latter an interesting combination of off-the-wall lyrics and crystalline guitar work.

The duet with Emmylou (I Don't Love You Much Do I) tops off a great album.

What a breath of fresh air Guy Clark brings to the music scene. This is an album that is comprised of songs that deal with real life in a very real way. From the cut Ramblin Jack and Mahan to the fresh I Don't Love You Much Do I to the haunting Madonna With Child this music cuts to very soul of the listener and makes you consider those most private parts of one's self. When the world gets you down and it seems nothing ever is gonna change put this album on get out the tools and build yourself a boat with your own two hands and remember it probably will be a fair curve from a noble plan. Thanks Guy Clark for reminding me that life is for living not observing.

If you are looking for twang and edge, this isn't your album right now. If you are looking for an incredible array of folky songs with a soft, compassionate feel, this IS your album. It is one of the best I own.

This is a great CD. The songwring is extremely focused - not many wasted notes or words here! The words and music fit together seamlessly. The performances is inspired, and Emmylou Harris guests on the wonderful "I don't love you much do I". True, Guy Clark may have a limited vocal range, but his vocals are always highly distinct, and his singing here is more assured than on previous albums where his voice sometimes cracks uncomfortably. Excellent musicians. Highly recomended.

A near perfect record, and my favorite Clark outing. Songs are all good, varied and fun. Recording is superb for those who like acoustic intruments. All of Clark's records after this are also good, but this is 35 minutes of perfection. Never a dull moment.

I like the whole CD but I ordered it for one song. And that song is awsome(I Don't Love You Much Do I)

If you're new to Guy Clark's music, here's a good place to start. If not and you don't own it yet, get ready for your current 'Best Guy Clark Album I own' to be replaced.

When I first bought this one, I listened to the CD once at home on my very, very nice system and was deeply impressed. Not only is the songwriting and playing superb, but the sound quality is up to that same level. The guitars just ring with that honest sound you get from a well made acoustic guitar. The playing has that "favorite, most comfortable flannel shirt" sort of feel. The more you listen to it, the more you enjoy it.

You can't say that about a lot of music today.

One last comment: this one is GREAT driving music. Out on the open road, I was listening to this disc and on came Ramblin' Jack and Mahan. I'll bet I played that song four times in a row if I played it once... and pretty dang loud, too. I've found you can't listen to this one "Too Much"...

I love this CD, can't live without it anymore

This is one of my all time favorite CDs. Classic Guy Clark with the title track stealing the show. It's an uplifting recording similar to his earlier works. The band on the CD is stellar as is his songwriting. Can't go wrong with this one!
