Boatswains Whistle or Bosun Pipe: Nautical Collection

I bought this for my father as a birthday gift. When I opened the beautiful detailed wooden box I was so down. The brass pipe had a large jagged opening between the bowl and the stem. The makers did not even try to fix the bad weld. To think that they packaged this up without inspecting it and selling it. This sends me a message loud and clear. There is no inspection or quality control with this company. I packed this up for a refund and not an exchange. They lost my trust.

Disappointed by the lack of quality.
Box is very nice but the pipe is a wreck. Mine actually has a saw gouge across the top of the bowl and the pee is badly deformed.
This is a good choice if you want to buy a toy for your children or a decoration for your nautically inspired bathroom (that's how it garnered the one star).
I'm not surprised one of the other reviewer's "First Mate" had trouble playing this, it is very poorly contructed (makes sense with such a low price.)
If you are buying a pipe because you actually want to use it to produce a sound I would highly recommend buying something else.

I ordered with Boatswain Whistle when my father in law passed away. He was in WWII and actually played the whistle on the ship he was assigned on. He was cremated and we wanted the whistle to be placed with his ashes and we gave one to my mother in law also, which she wore at the services.

I was worried about the timeline, and thought that we did not have enough time to get the whistle, since the seller told me that they only offered one type of delivery, but to my surprise, I ended up receiving the whistle earlier then anticipated, it came to me within about 3 days, could not have asked for anything better. Each time I e-mailed the seller, they were quick to get back to me. Wonderful customer service. Thank you very much.

This purchase reminded me why I hold detailed-intelligent consumer reviews so highly. I wish I listened to the poor reviews without crossing my fingers hoping they were just pessimists... I digress... The box it comes in seems to be worth more than the actual whistle. Actually,the box itself is really the only reason I gave this product a three and not a two. The box I can use. It's contents, "eh." The item is difficult for whistling, even for the challenges of a bosun. It is cheap metal, poorly welded, and at best, would be a good child's toy (although not that fun since a child probably couldn't whistle it), or... a decent... decorative piece for your car rear-view mirror. If you are more interested in the box though, go for it.

It is attractive, but does not whistle well. Disappointed with that, but nice looking piece.

This is a very lovely piece. I bought it for my first mate! He had a little trouble working it at first, which, according to online instruction, is normal. Will require some manipulation and practice. Bon Voyage!
