My daughter began reading with the BOB Books last year and now as a kindergartener, is working her way through the second series, More BOB Books. Maslen has done an excellent job in developing a series of books that build on one another so that each book is a little more difficult than the previous one. The first page in each book reviews which new sounds will be added so that the child may be review them before they begin the book. My daughter has developed a real sense of pride in her ability to read through these books. You really can't go wrong with BOB Books.

Alot of easy readers are boring to kids. My daughter has found the Bobs books series interesting and FUNNY, from the very first book. The books are written by a teacher and so there is a logical phonetic progression from book to book. The pictures are so cute, line drawings illustrate every page. Each little booklet is just long enough, giving the child just enough challenge. WHen my daughter finishes one, she feels so proud. I have bought literally hundreds of easy readers for my library over the years, and these books are number one with my daughter.

Finally beginning books for children who are really just beginning. My three-year-old has known her letter sounds for over a year but suddenly began reading with her introduction to Bob books this month. She is gaining confidence and is surprised that she can read like her older cousins. Her six-year-old cousin is also excited about reading since she borrowed our Bob books two months ago. One word of caution, clever children will quickly memorize the story line that goes with the simple pictures and may tell you the story without reading the words. It was helpful for us to break the words down letter by letter on index cards before attempting our first Bob book.

Awesome... my 4 1/2 year old child was reading within minutes of picking up her first Bob book. The author(s) took easy-to-learn sounds and turned them into interesting, fun stories that build confidence and promote early reading. No home with young children should be without this series of books... I am now buying them as gifts for family and friends. Definitely recommend!

I LOVE these books. I looked everywhere for books to jump start my 5 year old into reading. These are perfect. Almost all the words can be sounded out using the "short" vowel sounds. Untill now every book I found was either too long, or too dificult, or epxected the child to know too many "sight" words and my daughter didn't even want to start. But with the BOB books, she can read a whole book by herself. After working with two of these sets I can truly say she is reading! No need to memorize dozens of sight words before getting started. No understanding complicated "rules". I would recommend these books to all begining readers. They are well worth the money, I wish I found them earlier!

Don't buy any other. You will be delighted with the progress of your child, more so your child will take much pride in his success. These are little books with big results.

I bought lots of phonics books for my pre-schooler, and these were the WINNERS! I recommend them to all my friends with young children and agree with the other reviewers who say these books are "IT!" You will be glad you bought them!

The Bob books should be available to all young children. They are age appropriate through about age 7. Children love their size, charming line drawings, and simple stories. I teach first grade in a public school and feel that this type of book is invaluable for beginning readers. All the children I have ever taught have gravitated to the Bob books. They will literally "toss" aside the high quality literature books that are deemed most appropriate for children by leading educators today. The reason is because the Bob books are truly appropriate for young children. Get Bob! Get Reading! Get Success!

The other reviews listed here are accurate and not overindulgent in their praise of this series of books. We used the Bob Books for late Kindergarten and, now, in First Grade to re-inforce learning to read via phonics. The books are not intimidating to an early reader. They are fun, simple, progressive and build a lot of confidence in a hesitant reader. The drawings are sometimes hilarious and can be colored if your child is so inclined. I really love Bob Books and so does our son. They were the gateway to literacy for him and now he's confidently working his way through other early readers. You must buy these books!

This is an excellent book for teaching beginning reading. It uses phonics and simple sentences. The book should be used in schools.
