4.0 out of 5 stars But the Tunes are Interesting!
While I agree with Brent that it's a drag that the dulcet tones of Mister Zimmerman are missing from these discs, the many obscure songs that are on the set are a lot of fun and I put these discs on when it fits my mood and I really enjoy them.

This is Volume #2 and I also bought Volume #1 as well & I got this second one because I've been enjoying #1 for months...

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Advertising - Abuse of Dylan's brand
I bought this fairly expensive boxed set after enjoying the bonus disc "Friends and Neighbours" Theme Time Radio bonus disc that came with Together Through Life.
I expected to get to hear 4 CD's of "obscure" music and "garage bands" and Dylans informative history and droll wit. So rare to get to hear Dylan talk that was certainly the high point of the CD - not the...

This is Volume #2 and I also bought Volume #1 as well & I got this second one because I've been enjoying #1 for months & I think #2 will also add to my days.

But it's good to mention No BOB talking here but like I said, the tunes are great!

4.0 out of 5 stars VOLUME 2 A CONTINUATION OF GOOD AMERICAN ROOTS MUSIC, June 10, 2010

This review is from: Bob Dylan Radio Radio Vol. 2 (4 CD Set) (Audio CD)
Four discs 77,75,79,78 minutes each approximately. The sound overall is surprisingly good, with only a few tracks sounding a bit distant-usually a relatively obscure track recorded under less than ideal conditions. The discs are snapped in,inside a tri-fold book-style cardboard holder. On the cover is a photo of a young Bob Dylan. One inside flap is filled with b&w photos of a number of artists featured on this set. The back of the "book" lists the song titles, song lengths, artist, year of release, and the category it falls under. The eight page (glued in) booklet leaves a bit to be desired. There are descriptions of several of the more obscure (?) artists, which is helpful, but the proof-reading could be better. Under John Brim's name he is listed as blues harp player, but the description continues with Brim being a "capable harmonica player". Hmm. Truthfully,if you get past the errors, some of the information is useful and welcome, but a better done booklet would have equaled the great music found on these discs.

This is volume 2 of music from Dylan's "Theme Time Radio Hour". No,Dylan's commentaries are not heard. But whats left is a treasure trove of American roots music-all kinds of music-pop,blues,country,r&b,rockabilly,and some early r&r. This volume has a number of tracks from the 20's and 30's,which help give added depth, with the remaining tracks from the 40's and 50's. Artists range from the well known (Sister Rosetta Sharp,Lightnin' Hopkins, the Glenn Miller Orchestra,Tony Bennett,Nat King Cole,Hank Williams,Charlie Parker,Anita O'Day etc.),to a number of lesser known artists (Lonnie The Cat,Fatso Bently,Fiddlin' John Carson and Moonshine Kate,The Four Internes (sp?),Roy Hogsed,The Youngsters, and so on),all who contribute some fine music. With so much music, will everyone like all the tunes? No,but all are worth a listen, and most people who appreciate roots type music will find much to like here.

For anyone interested in good/great music from a number of eras long since gone, this is well worth purchasing. The simplicity, the earnestness, and the refreshing approach to music from times long past by so many artists,in many of the major genres of American music, stand in stark contrast to modern music making. This music will take you back to a simpler age in this country, and will work its way into your brain, and that's a good thing.

What do you get with this set? A nice box, a photo of Bob Dylan and 4 CD's of old time music - and never one word from Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan does not feature on this CD set in anyway - be warned - this is simply a rip-off of his name to sell a CD!
