The best golf instructional book I've ever read, June 6, 2010
This review is from: Bob Mann's Automatic Golf Complete (Paperback)
I also read this book for the first time in 1993 -- just before going on vacation to a Club Med where free golf was included. I followed the steps and the drills at the driving range there for the first hour or so and then went to play the the little par 3 they had. I felt immediately comfortable and was hitting the ball straight and high. I did this for a few days and continued to get better. By the 3rd day I was playing with some people and one of the men complemented me on how smooth my swing was. I told him I'd only been playing a few days and he was shocked! I continued playing infrequently but always started with Bob Mann's drills.
Fast forward to 2010. I haven't played golf in 7 years. But now my teenaged son wants to play so after getting a great deal on some clubs for both of us yesterday and breaking them in playing 9 holes I was pleased to see that after some practice, and remembering bits of Bob Mann's instruction, my swing was I felt confident in my swing looking and feeling fairly good -- but as we all know, it's the short game that makes your score and that just requires a lot of practice and play.
And now, 17 years after I first read it, I'm ordering another copy of this book from Amazon (Along with Bob's DVDs) as a gift to my son and myself. We can't afford a Pro to teach us just yet, but I'm confident that Automatic Golf is going to be a huge help in getting my game back and putting my son's game on the right track.
BTW, I've read lots of other instructional golf books, notably Golf My Way by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson's book (which have diametrically opposed views on many things) Both Nicklaus and Mann have the same KISS simple approach that is just perfect for beginners and those looking to break 100 or even 90. I'd rank Bob Mann's book even higher than my favorite golfer's, Mr. Nicklaus or Nick Faldo, my other favorite golfer. Mann just has a knack for putting the moves of a complex grip and swing into the simplest and most easy to understand terms.

The ONLY golf instruction you'll ever need, September 3, 2000

This review is from: Bob Mann's Automatic Golf Complete (Paperback)
Bob Mann has succeeded in putting everything you'll ever need to know to play excellent golf, in one, simple, easy to understand and execute book. I first read Automatic Golf in 1993, before I EVER picked up a golf club. I went with my wife to a resort, rented a set of clubs, and after a few hours at the driving range, went out on the course and hit a 94. I've heard of people playing for ten years never breaking 100. With Automatic Golf I did it in a few days. After continuing to practice Bob Mann's methods, I broke 90 within a month, and 80 within 4 months. Seven years later, I'm a 2 handicap, who's never take a lesson. I owe it ALL to Bob Mann and this book. By the way, I'm far from a natural athlete, and could probably stand to lose a good 30 lbs. In other words, there wasn't much to start with in my athletic skills, except a devotion to Bob Mann's methods that paid off . . . BIG. BUY THIS BOOK if you are serious about playing better golf.

Best golf instruction book, August 14, 1999

Bob must have coined the phrase KISS "Keep It Simple Stu*" because without a lot of things to remember he has taught me to hit the ball straighter and longer. When I step up to the ball everything really is automatic. Forget about checklists. This book has eliminated my slice. I recommend it to anyone starting out. His learning program is simple, but it works.
