This review is from: Bob Marley - Spiritual Journey (DVD & CD) (DVD)
This is by far the worst Bob documentary I have ever seen. There is no new material in this movie, the two people making commmentary about bob, obviously did not know him well. The maker of this DVD got two guys off the street, made some backdrop pictures of BOB and got some old material to put together this DVD.Please save your money. It is not worth it. Watch Time will Tell over and over or wait for something new from Tuff Gong.

Time Will Tell
I'm not sure why the reviews below are on this page, because they're about other films. "Time Will Tell" contains some of the best concert footage ever, dramatic history on Bob's life and times in Jamaica, and absolutely incredible interview footage with Bob. It was made by people who totally understood who he was and who are artists in the editing booth. Beautiful beginning, exquisite ending, and everything in between is first-rate. This is the film I show to people who think Bob Marley was a stoner with a guitar. They leave understanding that he was a prophet of love of the highest order. Not to be missed.

This is truly one of the best representations of the amazing array of footage that is available from such a varied artist as Bob Marley. While many may see Bob as simply a legend of his own genre this film takes a step beyond to truly appreciate the nuances that created all the dynamics that made Bob Marley one of the most interesting and impacting artists of the 20th century. Neville Garrick, a friend of Bob and his main art director for many projects while Bob was alive took great in care in weaving archival footage with narration from Bob himself. This style later being adopted for films such as Tupac: Resurrection.
That being said this is not the nuts and bolt Bob Marley documentary that many people may seek. There is no narration apart from the words of Marley himself. For a more basic overview of what made the major events of his life there are better examples like Rebel Music or even Caribbean Nights. This however has retained the warmth, the care and the overall love that truly went into this project at the time of creation. Being a young Bob Marley collector this was one of my first experiences that brought a deeper understanding of the man who made this music. The portions of footage alone are a great starting point to discover the full sources for these performances, which contain truly some of the greatest yet most humble music that shaped an international sound that still ripples throughout our culture.
