Plager produces here a short but entertaining read on the life and times of a modern NHL club from its inception in the late 1960s to today's front-office dealings. He's not only a good story-teller, but a great human being who's still involved in the Blues organization, and his stories do a great job of illustrating the changes the sports went through in the past fifty years when they began as part-time recreation to become Big Business (TM). Highly recommended.

An easy read, with many great and memorable stories. As a Blues fan from Day One in 1967 all fans should know about the early days of OUR team. Bob Plager was described as #5 on the Program, but #1 in the hearts of the fans. Blues traditions and fun tales EVERY fan should know.

This book was so good, I was dissapointed when I had finished it, I wanted to hear more tales from the Blues' Bench. Bobby Plager did a fantastic job! I can't wait for his next book to come out.

BOB PLAGER FORMER NHL PLAYER FOR ST LOUIS BLUES DOES A GREAT JOB IN THIS MUST READ FOR ALL HOCKEY FANS. JUST IMAGINE 3 BROTHERS (BOB, BILLY AND BARCLAY) ALL PLAYING ON THE SAME TEAM AT THE SAME TIME. THE ONLY OTHER TIME I CAN THINK OF THIS HAPPENING WAS THE ALOU BROTHERS WITH THE SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS. HE HAS SOME GREAT STORIES AND LIFE EXPERIENCES IN THIS BOOK. I REMEMBER SEEING BOB PLAYING ON TV IN THE LATE 1960'S WHEN EXPANSION FINALLY CAME IN THE NHL. IF YOU ARE A BLUES FAN THIS IS ESPECIALLY FOR YOU. WHEN THE BLUES COME MARCHING IN. VERY RECOMMENDED.

What a gem of a book by a gem of a guy. In the 1950s, I grew up across the road from the Plagers on McPherson Street in Kirkland Lake and they are all Bob said they were, and more! And I flipped through the pages cover to cover without putting the book down, lots of chuckles, belly laughs and good hockey stories. Bob, if you're checking your reviews, there is a Plager story in my new book "Tales of a Mad Miner", availalble here on Amazon.
