5.0 out of 5 stars Bobby Plump is a class act!!, April 1, 2010
This review is from: Bobby Plump Last of the Small Town Heroes (Hardcover)
I was at the game in 1954 when Bobby Plump made his famous shot that gave his Milan Indians an upset win over favored Muncie Central, a much larger school. A woman fainted right in front of me when the shot went in and the atmosphere in Butler Fieldhouse was electric. I played against Plump in college and have since met and talked with him a few times. No athlete deserves the type recognition that Bobby has received over the years better than he does. His shot inspired the movie Hoosiers and it was voted the best sports movie ever by ESPN. Bobby's career exemplifies that of a role model of which we have too few in sports anymore. He follows what the great John Wooden said: "Athletes are role models whether they like it or not." In knowing Bobby Plump, I know his values are strong and are such that he believes in himself. His courage in making the shot was part of his work ethic and should be followed by those wanting to be successful in their lives.

This book is a good read and Plump's legacy should be kept alive well after he is gone as his life is a blueprint for young people to follow if they want to make something out of themselves. America is at a crossroads and better leadership is sadly needed. Norman Jones-author of Growing Up in Indiana:The Culture & Hoosier Hysteria Revisited

5.0 out of 5 stars The Milan story that inspired the movie Hoosiers!!!, April 21, 2009
Anyone who wants to know the detailed history of schoolboy legend Bobby Plump should read this book. Plump is the player who hit the shot that helped a real small school, Milan, beat a big school, Muncie Central, in the final game of the Indiana high school basketball tournament in 1954. I was there, saw the shot go in and later played with and against players in that famous game. The game inspired the movie Hoosiers and the film and this book adds to the fact that Indiana is, indeed, the "basketball state." A good read for those who love the nostalgia of the Golden Era of Indiana basketball. Norm Jones-author of Growing Up in Indiana: The Culture & Hoosier Hysteria Revisited
