5.0 out of 5 stars A great look back, with some updates!, June 21, 2006

This review is from: Bob's Favorite Street Songs (Audio CD)
Like many people, I grew up on Sesame Street. Before we got a local PBS station, one of the commercial ones carried the program. Could you imagine that today? For a brief period, both stations had the program. The program had at least two profound effects on me. One, I learned to read at an early age. Two, the racially diverse cast helped me be more accepting of others. So I have fond memories of the program, and those great songs. Bob McGrath's been on the program since the beginning. He's been a stablizing presence, and a fantastic singer. The title suggests some legal problems. Note that it's not called his favorite Sesame Street Songs. Yet the liner notes, track selection, and even signs on the sleeve tell the whole story. We get quite a mixture of music. A Dixie band appears on "People In Your Neighborhood." He tries the blues on "Put Down The Duckie." You might detect some pop and Motown too. I particularly liked "Morning Town Ride." There are some slow songs too. "See You Tomorrow" makes a nice lullaby. It's a little strange hearing him sing Ernie's classic "Rubber Duckie." But "Being Green" was recorded by both Kermit the frog and Frank Sinatra. "Sing" was a hit for the Carpenters." Mr. McGrath pays tribute to Jim Henson and Joe Raposo in the liner notes. I have the cassette of this album. It's worth getting on CD too! Have fun with these songs. They bring back a lot of great memories.

I thought that this album was a great tribute to Jim henson and Joe Raposo... I liked all the songs, especially "Bein' Green" and "See You Tomorrow... Great songs that are sung with heartfelt emotion... best Album to come from McGrath in many years...
