Baking Tips for Flaxseed Meal* Ground flaxseed can be substituted for shortening or cooking oil at a ratio of 3 to 1 in baked goods. For example, 1-1/2 cups of flaxseed meal can replace 1/2 cup butter, margarine or cooking oil in a recipe. * Baked goods substituting flaxseed meal for cooking oil tend to brown more rapidly

A few months back, my wife decided to put flaxseed in nearly everything...smoothies, muffins, waffles, bread. You name it, if you can put some flaxseed in it, she's done it. I tell you, since the flaxseed revolution, I have been more regular than at any point in my life. I'm telling you, you can set your clock by my regularity. In fact, the flaxseed muffins have my drive to work a perilous activity as I have limited time before the flaxseed does its magic. Flaxseed meal is rich in fiber, lignans and omega-3 fats. You can't go wrong there...try some flaxseed, this stuff is magic.

Flaxseed's Latin species name, Linum usitatissimum, means "most useful." Couldn't have picked a better name myself. Flaxseed is a really useful addition to your diet. It contains alpha linolenic acid (ALA) which is an omega-3 fatty acid that helps with heath health, bone health and is an anti-inflammatory.

Plus it is great for cholesterol. A study compared people with high cholesterol who added 20 grams of ground flaxseed to their diet. These people were compared to people taking a statin drug. After two months, there were significant reductions of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in both groups.

So, clearly it's good for you, but lots of things are good for you. Question is, how difficult is it to add flaxseed to one's diet? This is where flaxseed distinguishes itself. Flaxseed can be sprinkled on all kinds of food. I put it on my cereal, in my smoothies, on my sandwiches and I don't really notice it. This is where flaxseed shines, it is invisible.

Alright, so I don't notice it. How about other people? I put flaxseed to the test by sprinkling it on the cereal of a very picky 7 year old I babysit for. He ate the cereal and drank the milk without a word. Passes the test.

Adding flaxseed to your diet is a no-brainer. Hope this review was helpful - enjoy.

I am taking flaxseed and this stuff is the best. It is rich in fiber and omega-3 fats, which is a good thing. Just put some of this on top of any of your hot meals and it will give you the best dietary fiber you can buy. It has a robust, nutty flavor which taste great, especially if you put it in your cereal.

Try it...you'll like it!

I have an allergy to Egg and heard that Ground Flaxseed meal is a great substitute for eggs when baking. 1 TBSP flaxseed meal plus 3 TBSP Water = 1 egg. I recently made some Breakfast cookies using the ground flaxseed meal and Bob's Red Mill GF FLour and they were delish - no gritty texture. My husband couldn't tell the difference and asked me to add raisins or chocolate chips next time. You just couldn't tell that there was no egg. I'm sold on this as a substitute when I need it.

This is so tasty and nutritious when added to oatmeal, muffins and bread. It's ready to use and wonderfully fresh. Omega-3 without the fish!

Superb addition to cereal or whatever you are having or baking - wonderful nutritional properties. My only concern was that the packaging was not very convenient, if not placed in a zip-loc bag. Content great but the package needs to be improved. How about making the packs zip-lock friendly - as the top is cut off - you can zip the pack shut - or use eco-friendly containers instead.
I still love the flaxseed meal despite the package

There are many reasons why you should buy Flaxseed.
For starters, it's great for curbing your appetite, losing weight, getting extra fiber in your diet and helping with your bowel movements.

Bob's Red Mill Flaxseed was a good buy being that you get a pretty big bag of flaxseed for such a low price. Flaxseed has a slightly nutty flavor and tastes a little "lettuce-like" as well. I usually mix it with my yogurt or put it on a sandwich. In comparison to other brands, there really wasn't much of a difference. (even with organic flaxseed)

Just watch how much flaxseed you consume in a day because consuming too much means going to the bathroom a lot or not wanting to eat.
