5.0 out of 5 stars so delicious!
I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease a year ago. The hardest part of going gluten free has been that the only gluten free breads that are readily available are white and doughy. I have made one myself using a variety of flours, but it still doesn't have that whole grain taste/mouth feel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite.
This bread has a pretty strong taste that reminds me of rye bread. I don't care for rye bread, so this is not my choice of the breads available. My husband likes it, but he also likes rye bread. Just a matter of taste!

When I tried this bread after making it in my bread machine, I almost cried. It was delicious, texture was heavenly, and it was simple to make! Cheap too, especially if you sign up for the automatic reorder deal.
It doesn't seem gluten free and it actually has a decent amount of fiber in it.
I love Bob's Red Mill and Amazon too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Closest thing to GF Pumpernickel or Rye Bread I've found, September 20, 2009

This review is from: Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free Whole Grain Bread Mix, 20-Ounce Units (Pack of 4) (Grocery)
I use this mix on a regular basis and find that I do need to add about a teaspoon of xanthan gum to it or else it doesn't hold together for a good sandwich or bun. I've also found it's better if I add 2 TBSP molasses to the liquid measure (reducing the water by that amount). This mix also responds well to substituting ground flax seed gel for egg. It only seems to enhance the whole grain texture.

I simply don't have the patience for mixing half a dozen flours to make bread. This mix and the Pamela's mix allows me to have variety in the bread I make and every loaf (or batch of buns) come out consistently good.

It's easy to make buns with any GF bread mix by using a muffin top pan. Another tip is it's easy to make sure your dough has the right temp to rise perfectly - use a heating pad under the dough set on low (yes, the same heating pad you use on your back).

If you order this product under Subscribe & Save, you can't beat the price and if you're living gluten free - you need all the price breaks you can get!

4.0 out of 5 stars Benefits from a Banana, March 23, 2009

This is healthy - very high in whole grain.

As with their Cinnamon Rasin bread, is is greatly improved by adding an over-ripe banana to the mix. It not only makes a larger loaf and more moist, but helps to cut the strong flax seed flavor a bit.

I have had multiple food allergies since 1997 and really missed having a whole grain type of bread to eat (without mixing a hundred ingredients to make one loaf of bread). When I tried this mix a few months ago I couldn't believe how wonderful it tastes. The mix works fine in my bread machine, and the bread looks, feels, and tastes like "real" bread.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soooo good!, October 4, 2009
This review is from: Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free Whole Grain Bread Mix, 20-Ounce Units (Pack of 4) (Grocery)
I'm eating a warm piece of this bread right now as I type this. Just heavenly on a chilly blustery day. I used a bread machine, tossing in the ingredients as directed on the label then let the machine work its magic: simple and totally foolproof. The loaf rose to the perfect size, baked evenly, and came out of the pan smoothly. It smelled so good I didn't even wait for it to cool (like you're supposed to) but immediately had to try it hot with plenty of butter. Wow...is all I can say. So, so, good. Such a rich, springy, moist & hearty texture; lots of little satisfying seeds and grain bits but not too much. Just right. This is by far the best gf bread I've tried, with a complex and comforting flavor and wonderful mouth feel. It's not too sweet and does not have that bitter back-flavor that a lot of gf breads do. I completely recommend this and am ordering more! It'll have you happily patting your belly.

This is a really good gluten free product. It is very moist and doesn't crumble. It's also really easy to make in either the oven or bread machine.

I have used Bob's Red Mill Whole Grain Bread Mix several times. However, I found that if you add some dried onions, about 1/4 cup and some garlic powder it makes a delicious onion bread that I like much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Whole Grain Option, July 12, 2009
This review is from: Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free Whole Grain Bread Mix, 20-Ounce Units (Pack of 4) (Grocery)
This product is Gluten Free, unlike the poster who claimed Buckwheat contains Gluten...It is from a totally differnt plant and is Gluten Free. If people would do their research they would know better than to post things that are false.

That said, This is a nice alternative to store bought frozen breads. And easy to make. THe only issue I had, was it rose too much! I suggest either splitting it into a loaf and some rolls or getting a large bread pan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delicious bread, very large loaf, May 24, 2010

This review is from: Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free Whole Grain Bread Mix, 20-Ounce Units (Pack of 4) (Grocery)
I love this bread. I made it in my bread machine, and it was wonderful. The only problem was that the loaf was too big for my machine and overflowed onto the heating coil. I smelled smoke, and black smoke was rolling out of the machine. I opened the lid and turned on the fan and let the cycle finish. Of course, I couldn't trust that the bread had gotten done, so I put the whole pan from the machine into the oven at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes. It turned out wonderfully in spite of the mess and the smoke.

My husband ate it fresh from the oven and so did I and my mother, and we all loved it. The texture is rough and moist, with lots of seeds, etc., exactly the kind of bread I love. Before I decided to try gluten-free, I was eating Sara Lee 100% Multi-Grain. This is rather similar to that. It does have a mild rye taste, which is fine with me, but if you want a white or wheat taste, you might not enjoy the rye flavor. It also has a very faint onion powder flavor which I could do without and don't know why they put in, but still it is a great bread for sandwiches, toast or to eat with soup or stew.

I'm going to try the other "Wonderful" mix by the same maker.

With this one, next time I will let the bread machine do the mixing and then divide it into two loaf pans to rise and bake in the oven and skip the overflow and burning and smoke.
