I put these in my cart and thought on 'em for quite a long while. $17 seemed like a lot of money to spend on something I'd never tried before. Sure, I've had some of the hulled (or white) sesame seeds on buns and such, but I was less certain of this "heartier" unhulled variety. I mean, what was I going to DO with all those seeds? Well, my concerns were quickly put aside when my quartet of bagged seeds arrived. Describing the taste is tricky; the bag says they "have a nutty, slightly sweet flavor and aroma that is enhanced by toasting." Me thinks Bob's Red Mill didn't know how to describe them either! I detect nothing sweet and notice an almost slightly smoky flavor. And I can say this: they've grown on me. I eat them straight, in cereal with milk, in homemade granola and added to baked goods. They're really quite versatile. I haven't made Tahini yet, but there's a recipe right on the package and one for Hummus and a third for cookies. Unhulled, i.e., brown sesame seeds have a higher Calcium content (16% RDA in 2 tbsp) than hulled, which is the primary reason I wanted these, but they also are a good source of Iron (13%) and Magnesium. They keep best refrigerated or frozen - and happily since I'm dealing with 4 pounds of product, the expiration date is two years off. I'm glad I bought these.

With VitaCost selling this 16oz for $5 a pound and Amazon S&S at $4.25 a pound for 4x16oz, this brown sesame seed is looking more attractive to me since I have been consuming organic but the price have been going up considerably. I consume more brown than white and although Red Mill is not organic, the brown sesame seed by Red Mill is my next option to organic sesame . seeds.

Sesame is the king of nutrients when it comes to minerals so important to me as a whole delicious seed; calcium, magnesium, zinc and Phytosterol with the healthiest fat.

The most important hormone, and the one that's crucial for weight loss, is insulin. Insulin is the hormone that controls fat storage. A high-carb diet increases the amount of glucose in the bloodstream, which in turn means you produce more insulin. The more insulin the body produces, the more fat gets stored. A low-carb diet means less insulin, making it easier to lose weight because less fat is then stored.

It's sesame seed hull on, nicely packaged, great price, have bought before, will buy again. Get the white if you want unhulled.

I've got to admit that when I opened the first package, I munched a few and I was not impressed at all by the taste. Hummm. I followed the directions and toasted about half the package and WOW, what a difference. The taste is just wonderful. Now I use them in everything I can think of, from sprinkling on salads, to Asian food, and steamed vegetables. I am sure that everyone knows that Bob's Red Mill is 100% reliable and their products are always dependably fresh. I absolutely will order from them again. Sesame seeds are one of the really good sources of calcium and that's a good thing.

So I bought these to make homemade bumble bars, which are made with normal light sesame seeds. The extra nutrition in the hulls here is a HUGE bonus - they don't taste tough or anything either, like flax seeds. I can't really tell the difference, outside of a pleasant nutty flavor addition. I'll buy these forever, lol.
