I play serveral musical instruments including the celtic harp. I was looking for a basic book to assist me in beginning to play the bodhran. This book, which claims to offer 'several methods' etc., is only 25 pages long and half of that is quaint pictures and useless sheet music. Basically, it appears to be a photocopied handout from someone's workshop which they stapled together and put a pretty cover on. Sadly, this book is a total waste of money.

I think I pretty well fall into the "beginner" audience supposedly the target of this booklet (I can't bring myself to call it a book). I was unimpressed.

It seems to have been published in 1984 by Walton's, makers of cheap bodhrans best suited to hanging on a wall or use as a beer coaster. While the author is probably quite capable and respected as a player and teacher, time moved on and every scrap of useful information seems to be available on one web site or another, for free, so why bother? While the booklet may have been relevant in 1984, its time has passed.
