This review is from: Bodog Fight: St. Petersburg (DVD)
This DVD set consists of three parts: two separate preliminary rounds followed by the finals in which some of the winners of the earlier rounds face off. Each of the episodes prior to the last one features at least two fights, one between two non-Americans, and one between two Americans. Thus, in one episode, you might see two light heavyweight fights, and in another, two middleweight bouts. Most of the fights were filmed in St. Petersburg in a closed arena. The final episode is the pay-per-view event with the final match-ups and feature bouts including Fedor Emelianenko against Matt Lindland and Fedor's brother Aleksander Emelianenko against Eric Pele. This season of Bodog Fight was, I thought, better than the first season in that there was more action, both on the feet and on the ground. In addition, the producers of the show appear to have learned a lesson from the first show and have removed the lengthy biographies of the fighters, replacing them with additional fights (the international bouts). There is some controversy (notably, the Fedor-Lindland fight), and the women's fights, like those in the first season, are quite good. At the same time, the commentary gets a bit repetitive, and the incessant plugs for Bodog music also begin to grate. (Bodog musician Bif Naked does many of the promos ("There's plenty more action, so stay tuned" and that sort of thing).) You'll see better fighting in UFC or Pride shows, but for the Fedor completist or simply those who want some sort of MMA to watch between the more dominant shows, this set fits the bill.

Good fights and a few not so good,

This is a good video of the fights for this branch of MMA. There are more rules as to what you can not do than other MMAs. But, they do try to keep the fights going by turning the fighters toward the center of the ring. The girl fights are very good. One girl-girl fight was worth watching and buying this video! The final heavy weight match was disappointing because of the Russian holding on to the ropes to keep from being taken down. There was a fight I beleived was stopped too soon but the ref made his best call to stop it; it was a good fight though{back -n- forth}.
