5.0 out of 5 stars watch out - the sizes are confusing!
I really like my Bodum coffee presses - I have two sizes, and was delighted to see I could replace the beaker separately. But watch out if you order a replacement beaker. My small one holds 3 of what I think are ordinary cups, so I ordered the 3 cup replacement beaker by mistake. Looks like my small one is actually an 8 cup unit, and my big one (which hold 5 of my cups)...

3.0 out of 5 stars It works
It's a little bigger in diameter than the original and a very tight fit for the holder. But it does seem to be a thicker glass than the original and will hopefully hold up better.

I really like my Bodum coffee presses - I have two sizes, and was delighted to see I could replace the beaker separately. But watch out if you order a replacement beaker. My small one holds 3 of what I think are ordinary cups, so I ordered the 3 cup replacement beaker by mistake. Looks like my small one is actually an 8 cup unit, and my big one (which hold 5 of my cups) is a 12 cup unit. There is no info on the Bodum itself of how big it is, so if you don't remember, it takes some guesswork to figure out whether you have a "3", "8", or "12" cup Bodum.

Study the measurements carefully and get the closest match. The oz's held are the easiest way to tell, but of course if the beaker is broken you have a problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Replacement Beaker size-guide, February 24, 2011

Bodum Replacement Beaker Size Guide

3-cup = 12oz = 1 1/2 US Cups/Mugs

4-cup = 16oz = 2 US Cups/Mugs

8-cup = 32oz = 4 US Cups/Mugs

12-cup = 48oz = 6 US Cups/Mugs

The Bodum "cup" is actually 4oz whereas a US Cup/Mug is 8oz.

For reference, a white mug from a diner is 8oz, a Starbucks "Tall" (their smallest size) is 12oz.

I have Bodum presses in all the sizes and find that these fit perfectly. I am glad that I did not need to add more to the landfill by having to buy an entire coffee press just to replace the beaker.

The glass beaker does its job well, and stands up to the dishwasher great. What it doesn't tolerate is any kind of accidental "crash" by knocking it against a sink or faucet. Before you can blink an eye, it's broken. Anytime it is in your hands, BE CAREFUL!!

My new Coffee Press Beaker has broken twice in the past few months. Sigh. Be careful with them! I was happy to know I could order replacements off Amazon. Could they be made a bit stronger?

1.0 out of 5 stars Glass Breaks Too Easily, April 15, 2008

If you are thinking of buying this product-- you already know the Glass Breaks. You may think you did something wrong, but the problem is that the special BoroSilicate glass Bodum uses is much too fragile, and apparently breaks for no reason at all. Or perhaps the reason is that unlike normal glass which is one of the hardest substances known, this glass scratches easily if it comes in contact with any metal or other hard surface, and then subsequently shatters.

So Instead of buying this replacement beaker, which I assure you will only be the first of many, get a new press made of unbreakable plastic LEXAN or one made of a different and less fragile type of glass.

5.0 out of 5 stars heavier and better than alternative, December 24, 2010

First, you need to understand that a European coffee cup is 4oz. Thus, this carafe is good for one 10-11oz. American coffee mug. Second, when comparing this carafe with an alternative, look at the weight. We had the other kind and broke two of them. These weigh twice as much and are sturdier. Third, never, ever use metal utensils with these or any other glass object that will eventually be heated: microscopic cracks can eventually become dangerous. We keep a plastic picnic knife handy for stirring. Given all that, these do the job.

I was mislead by the 3 cup description. This 3 cup means three four ounce meansurements which came to a 12 ounce capacity. There was no way to know by the description that this was what I was ordering. I also found that some of the Peets Coffee stores carry them in stock.

2.0 out of 5 stars Breaks too easily, February 17, 2012
This review is from: Bodum 12-Ounce Coffee Press Replacement Beaker, Glass (Kitchen)
Bodum has to figure out how to make a beaker that doesn't break- this is ridiculous. I love this French press but find that replacing the beaker multiple times makes this product too expensive to use. It withstands the dishwasher great but does not tolerate the SLIGHTEST ding on a hard surface- I am not exaggerating. They do not replace beakers that have been broken this way. Maybe Bodum needs to create a plastic beaker product? Go with a filter and save your money.

I recently broke the beaker for my Brazil french press and was annoyed that the press and replacement beaker were the same price at bodum's website. I was glad to find it here cheaper. it fits the Bodum Brazil 3 cup (which is 12 OZ) perfectly.
