Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Beautiful, durable, and clever, the Assam cast-iron tea press from Bodum makes perfectly brewed tea by blending ancient and modern design elements. With its cast-iron body, arced handle, and raised-dot design, the piece draws on the traditions of Japanese tetsubin pots and English tea aesthetics. But its stainless-steel infuser is a modern addition, with holes to allow tea to brew to the preferred strength and a plunger to stop brewing in its tracks. This allows for different teas to be steeped according to their characteristics and prevents bitterness without requiring leaves to be removed. Not suitable for stovetop use, the teapot has a 17-ounce capacity, enough to serve one or two people at a time. It must be washed and dried by hand to preserve its integrity, though an enamel interior does protect against deterioration. The press comes in a 34-ounce size as well, and a glass version is also available. --Emily Bedard

Product Description

The BODUM Assam cast iron tea press is both a functional and artful item for the tea table. The cast iron tea press combines the old Japanese tradition of enjoying tea in a tetsubin style teapot with BODUM's proven tea press system. The Assam shape is reminiscent of the traditional English tea pots, whereas the cast iron material and its texture create the relaxing feeling of participating in a Japanese tea ceremony, a purifying bath of the six senses. Cast iron was used not only to convey the Asian style, but because of its brilliant qualities to preserve heat and therefore the consistent quality of the tea within. To create the distinctive Assam bowl shape, two iron cast parts are fused together. The knob pattern (Arare) surrounding the exterior of the pot contains the same amount of knobs in the first and last row. The inside is lined with a smooth, durable vitreous coating of enamel to prevent the iron from deterioration. If properly cared for, the cast iron teapot will last more than a lifetime. The Assam cast iron tea press should be hand washed and never placed directly on the stove or open heat source. Brewing loose-leaf tea is easy with the Assam. Simple add your favorite black, green, herbal, or white tea to the infuser. Pour hot water over the tea, filling the pot. Allow the tea to brew to your liking and then press. The patented press system separates the tea leaves from the water, completely stopping the brewing process and eliminating bitter tea. This means that you can enjoy your tea over time while resting assured that your first cup and third cup will taste the same. The Assam 4 Cup Tea Press serves 4 ¿ 4 oz cups.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful little teapot, February 17, 2009

This review is from: Bodum Assam 17-Ounce Cast-Iron Tea Press with Stainless Steel Filter (Kitchen)
This is just the right size for one person (or even two). It makes about three teacups at a time. Bodum's system for controlling the brewing of tea is the best that I've found. After you push the plunger down, no further increase in strength of the tea can occur. I've used their all glass versions of the teapot for many years. I like this one best because of its all metal construction. It is important to preheat the heavy cast iron pot with a preliminary partial filling of near boiling water. But, with all that thermal mass, the tea stays much hotter for a longer time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice teapot, November 20, 2009

This review is from: Bodum Assam 17-Ounce Cast-Iron Tea Press with Stainless Steel Filter (Kitchen)
Nice teapot. Looks nice. Makes good tea. I like the stainless steel filter; it is much better than the plastic filters Bodum uses in other teapots, with finer holes and a more substantial manufacture. Beware, the teapot is heavy, much heavier than the same size Bodum glass teapot. And, unlike the glass teapot where one can fill the teapot to the level one sees through the glass, here one must estimate fill level based on the level of water one sees in the top of the filter. Also, the handle of the teapot, also made of iron, will get hot while the teapot is in a tea cozy keeping the tea warn. Overall, I recommend this teapot if you would not mind its heft. I am glad I purchased it.

Very good design and well made product, prewarm the pot and it will keep tea warm a very long time.
