This review is from: Bodum 3001-582USA Santos 12-Cup Vacuum Brewer, Teal (Kitchen)
initially it was cool to see the way it brewed coffee. but after 2 months of use, i would go back to the french press.
the setup's got too many cleaning parts, and the french press does a better job with less coffee grind. things to clean are top funnel, filter, lid, bottom pot and funnel seal. i got used to cleaning them rather quickly except for one: the funnel seal. apparently after a few uses, water would seep into the funnel seal. the seal is not solid(i.e. when it's in place there's actually air pocket inside, where water is trapped). this seal isn't easy to take off and put back. that was the deal breaker for me. plus, it takes more coffee grind(1-2 more scoops per 35oz) to brew compared to using the french press. this is because the brewing time is about 1min for 35oz and this cannot be controlled. using french press, you can control the brewing time. i've heard cutting the feeding tube 1/4" would increase the brewing time. actually i've done that too. yes, it increases the time to about 4mins. BUT, the brew starts to boil for the last 2mins, which makes the coffee bitter. i'll be using it to boil water, which it does well and stick to the french press. |
