Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Just by looking, it's not hard to believe this automatic espresso machine won The Chicago Athenaeum's prestigious Good Design 2003 award. But, in addition to the sophisticated modern styling, the machine’s many innovative features make it easy to brew great-tasting espresso, cappuccino, and latte drinks. To take the guesswork out of making the perfect cup, the Granos offers a fully programmable control panel. Set it to accommodate individual preferences, or choose a single or double espresso by simply pushing a button. There's also the option of using either regular ground coffee or the popular pre-packed espresso pods. The Bodum Granos' ThermoBlock heating system ensures the correct water temperature for extracting the coffee's full flavor, while its unique water system expels used water rather than letting it flow back into the fresh-water reservoir. A 19-bar pump, dual-wall filter, and a stabilizing baffle in combination ensure a consistent, correct release of pressure. Its filter holder and handle are made of chrome-plated brass, and all internal and external components are made from metal and high-quality electrical parts. Additional features include a cup warmer, a steam wand for making cappuccino and latte drinks, and an adapter for attaching bottled water directly to the machine. A tamper and single, double, and pod shot filters are included. This espresso machine carries a two-year limited warranty. --Catie Unger

Product Description

The perfect shot of espresso requires more than just carefully selected, blended, and hand roasted beans. Making great espresso requires a great espresso machine. About espresso coffee Bodum's extensive experience in designing quality products together with more than 50 years know-how of coffee brewing has enabled us to develop this pump espresso machine which is as beautiful as it is functional. Learning from commercial machines has inspired the design of the Granos with the filter handle made from brass and all the internal and external components made from metal and high quality electrical parts. The BODUM Granos Espresso machine is fully programmable and takes the guesswork out of making a perfect cup of espresso. At the push of a button you can have a single or double espresso, or program it to suit your personal taste, so next time it will remember just how you like it. As coffee continues to be an integral part of culture, the demand for the perfect cup is ever increasing. We have tailored the design of our espresso machine to satisfy your individual requirements. What makes a good coffee? There are many factors that contribute to the perfect coffee. The words ‘taste’ and ‘aroma’ are consistently used when describing the perfect cup. The sweet aroma and taste of the perfect coffee is largely due to the correct combination of temperature and pressure during the brewing process. The ‘Thermoblock’ heating system ensures the water is at the correct temperature, so that the full coffee flavor is extracted. Secondly, the combination of the 19 BAR pump, dual-wall filter and stabilizing baffle ensure to release the correct pressure at which the liquid espresso is released from the spout. The flow should consist of both liquid and cream. This cream is commonly known as the Crema. The perfect Crema should be thick and stable and preserve the coffee flavor, aroma and temperature.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incredible machine, wonderful espresso, and worth the money!, September 22, 2004
This review is from: Bodum 3020-16US Espresso Granos (Kitchen)
I bought the machine about 2 weeks ago and it took me about 5 min to read the instructions and use the machine. Sorry, but one would have to be an idiot not to understand how to use it. I love its versatility,e.g. espresso coffee or pods, regular water or add bottle (for those whose tap water is bad (comes with an adapter)), froth maker for capuccino or steam water for tea. It sure will draw WOWs from your friends. As long as you remember to run a cup of water through before each time you use it, your espresso should be the perfect temperature. Took me some time to realize why it was lukewarm. The only bad thing (why i gave it 4 and not 5 stars) I have to say about the Granos is that in order to remove the portafilter, i.e the part with the handle holding the coffee, you have to use force. But maybe after a few months it will loosen up a bit and things will be easier. All in all I am completely satisfied with its user-friendliness, crema, temperature, and versatility.

1.0 out of 5 stars CAUTION: This machine has known leaky design flaws, March 27, 2008
This review is from: Bodum 3020-16US Espresso Granos (Kitchen)
CAUTION: This machine has known leaky design flaws which BODUM chooses to ignore.

I purchased my machine January of 07 and was infatuated with my machine functionally and aesthetically until it began to aggressive leak from the tank above during the process of making espresso just nine months after purchase. After returning the machine (very costly shipping) to an apathetic outside contractor of Bodum that provided absolutely no technical information or help, the product was returned to me a month later only yielding one shot of espresso before it started to pour out the seams from the tank once again. CAUTION PEOPLE. This machine is tantamount to a sexy woman with no substance inside. Gorgeous looking design but with a huge design flaw that dates back to the conception of this product in 05'. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY or be tricked by the provocative sexual curves of this machine. Shame on Bodum for not making the necessary changes in their product when an obvious design flaw exists. According to my research, the average machine lasts 4-6 months before starting to leak. A $ 500 machine should work for at least 3-4 years. I advise anybody who is interested in this product to do some research online. The results are astounding...

3.0 out of 5 stars Woked great for about 6 months. . . ., January 22, 2006

This review is from: Bodum 3020-16US Espresso Granos (Kitchen)
Loved my machine when I got it - it is beautiful, and made a great latte. I used it about 7-4 times a week. After having it for about 6 months, I noticed that less and less espresso was coming out of the brewhead, and then I noticed that the machine was leaking. Luckily it is under warranty from the manufacturer, but I'm having a hard time finding my sales slip. If I can get the company to repair the leak, then I will be very happy with my purchase - just make sure that which ever machine you purchase has an extensive warranty and make sure to save your sales slip!!
