5.0 out of 5 stars Indestructable Kettle
This is the second kettle of this model that we bought. The old one has been burned without water so many times that finally the handle melted. The Bodum kettle is almost indestructable if you forget to take it off the stove for say... an hour. It has literally been red hot several times due to carelessness on our part. Nonetheless, It never leaked, cracked, or...

I owned the same kettle for 5 years. I finally decided to replace it last August (it was stained white -- water marks, that was all). The new kettle arrived and the handle seemed flimsy and loose. I tightened the screws on the outside. It worked temporarily. Today, one side of the handle fell off completely, WHILE I WAS POURING THE BOILING WATER! This tea kettle is dangerous and very poorly constructed. I would not recommend buying it.

NOTE (1/11/06) -- I called Bodum customer service and they very kindly told me they would replace my tea kettle. I appreciate this attention to the problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wobbly handle, January 26, 2005

I love the look of this kettle, but the handle is hinged to the body, and when I pour from it the kettle swings back and forth dangerously; I've burned myself a couple of times. It's a shame that such care was taken with the aesthetics when the functional design is so poor.

The Bodum kettle is almost indestructable if you forget to take it off the stove for say... an hour. It has literally been red hot several times due to carelessness on our part. Nonetheless, It never leaked, cracked, or distorted. It always cleans up like new, and boils water faster than most other kettles. It is simplicity and function. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want a great looking kettle that you just cannot break, this is it.

I have just purchased this piece of MOMA stovetop functional art for the second time. The first one I got is still at work on my stovetop at home #1 after more years than I can remember - when was this Bodum classic designed? It is still as beautiful and functional as the first day I got it! Now I have one for home #2 as well. I checked out every other tea kettle on the market and non can compare to the clean elegant lines and simple straight forward response to the task of boiling water. The Osiris tea kettle has beauty combined with utility,"beautility", in a word. Not bad for a modest piece of kitchen cookware, huh?

1.0 out of 5 stars Teakettle Broke, November 6, 2006
This review is from: Bodum Osiris Stovetop Teakettle (Kitchen)
Soon after I received this teakettle, the handle broke off. Amazon wouldn't give me a refund, so now I have to file a claim with my credit card company. Thanks Amazon!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by it's look...this kettle has serious design flaws, August 11, 2009
This review is from: Bodum Osiris Stovetop Teakettle (Kitchen)
After looking at 20 or so kettles, I decided on the Bodum Osiris Stovetop Teakettle for it's unique design. Here were my problems the first week in using it:

1. Handle is extremely hot - a mitt is required.

2. Hinges on handle are extremely dangerous - while pouring, the kettle may swing from side-to-side - not good when you are pouring boiling hot water.

3. Due to the open-spout design, it takes slightly longer for the water to come to a boil.

4. The handle in general was designed poorly - once the water gets hot, it contracts and falls to a side, thus literally melting the handle since it is not heat proof. Mine melted on both sides the first week.

I am a fan of many Bodum products...just not this one. Bodum should consider redesigning it for consumer safety.

4.0 out of 5 stars Attractive, solid but not for flat top stoves, March 19, 2007

This review is from: Bodum Osiris Stovetop Teakettle (Kitchen)
I wanted an attractive, easy-to-clean, non-whistling water kettle. This appears and feels quite solid and attractive. However I had mistakenly thought from the picture that the bottom was a solid metal disc. It's not, there is a rim that reaches out, presumably to trap extra heat. However the rim prevents the bottom of the pot from touching the surface of my flat top electric stove (which I love) and this kettle took forever to heat to boiling. After a month we gave up and gave it away. If you have a different type of stove it will probably work well for you.

By the way, if you get mineral deposits inside your kettle, just spray it weekly with a 50-50 white vinegar and water solution, wipe off the deposits, and rinse well. If the deposits have been there a long time, pour in full strength vinegar and let it sit and soak until the deposits loosen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs a whistle, December 25, 2006
This review is from: Bodum Osiris Stovetop Teakettle (Kitchen)
Attractive item, but without a whistle, it was easy to forget it on the stove. When I did that, after 20 minutes or so with burner on high, it turned bronze in color. At least it didn't melt!! The handle does not reamin upright, so it gets too hot to pick up the kettle with normal usage.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Equal to the Original, November 3, 2006

I have used the original product through friends for a number of years. This product is flimsy by comparison. It has not held up well. I do not not know the gauge of the original metal, but it is considerably stronger. In just a short period of use the vertical piece by which the handle attaches to the kettle top has loosened, and it does not appear that it can be repaired except by taking it to a welder. It is usable as is, but neither substanial nor pleasing.

1.0 out of 5 stars HANDLE IS TOO HOT TO HANDLE., May 24, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bodum Osiris Stovetop Teakettle (Kitchen)
This is a great looking teapot, but the handle is a problem. It does not stay upright. It gets very hot, since it lays on top of the pot while the water boils and heats the plastic handle in the process.
