Fragile!,

Had previously owned the Bodum Ceylon 51oz Iced Tea Pitcher, but the "infuser" was useless from the start and the lid broke after a few uses... so I was excited to see the Biasca Ice Tea Jug as an updated ice tea solution.First off - please note that this is a COLD BREW iced tea maker which requires 5-6 hours of cold steeping in the fridge. This also means that hot water should never be used. The idea behind a cold brew is to cut down the bitterness or astringency of regular brew iced tea, and also to enhance the more subtle flavors of whichever leaf you're using. This process and jug produces a very soft, light and delicate iced tea. If you're looking for brisk - keep looking. Even adding heaps of extra tea does not go far in strengthening a cold brew. Regarding the Biasca, I LOVE the design - my version had a bright green lid and looked fun and modern. The overall size of the jug is also appreciated as it has a small diameter and a comfortable, slim handle. Plus the lid is fantastic - a good rubber seal and a fine mesh that keeps all leaves in the jug and out of your mug. Wonderful! I wish I could continue enjoying that wonderful design, however, on only my second use, I set a full jug back in the fridge and the bottom two inches of the jug broke off and sent glass and thousands of tiny tea leaves all over my fridge and kitchen floor. Be warned - this item is extremely fragile! I did not bang or slam the jug against anything, not did I use hot water - and yet it still broke. I'm sure you'll have better luck than I if you understand this going in. Treat it with kid gloves and I'm sure it will be a great iced tea maker for you! But for me, being that this is the second Bodum tea product that has broken within a few uses, I think I'm calling it a day with their iced tea goods. As a side note - I'm still a fan of Bodum products. I own many Bodum glasses and a glass teapot and have not had any issues with those even after a few years of use. Just something about their iced tea items....

It was beautiful but broke the first time I tried to use it. I think the only thing that I did was put it down on the counter top in my kitchen and I found a hole in the center of the bottom.Oh well.

Biasca made for the few!,

I own several sets of Bodum insulated glasses for many years, no problem, but this "infuser" broke with in the first 30 minutes of use. The entire bottom of the infuser broke off. The Biasca is as delicate (OK - more delicate) than fine china. Nice design but not built for realistic use.

Too fragile,
This review is from: Bodum Biasca 40-Ounce Glass Iced Tea Maker (Kitchen)
The glas of this iced tea maker is paperthin and hence very fragile. It broke after one month already. I was very disappointed, especially because Bodum did not exchange the iced tea maker.

On my second use of this pitcher, it broke! I was placing the top back on, after filling it up, and water started to run all over my counter. I don't know if too much pressure built up while pushing down the filter cap, or if it was cracked, but a small hole ruptured on the bottom of the pitcher. The glass on this product is way too fragile! Just be warned.

I've had the Biasca for over two years now and it is almost always in use. The only negative I would give the product is that the strainer becomes terribly stained from the tea and there's no good way to clear out the muck. I worry that it will soon stop straining, but it is still working perfectly despite the buildup.

The design and function of this tea maker are excellent. I love everything about it except the durability. My first one broke on the first use so I'm trying to be much more careful with the second.

I bought the neon yellow one. I don't have problem with the glass crack problem the other buyers experienced. Yes the glass seems to be thin that's why it's light and once I take it out when it's so chilled I'll have the other hand hold the bottom and gently put it on the table as I do with any other jug, pot, glass or etc. So far it's been really good and makes excellent ice tea. I got it under 20USD at TJMaxx. I love it!

I just like it!!! I'm still in doubt if it would resist hot tea, baceuse it would look amazing with tea flowers inside, don't you think? Should I try?

I just didn't have time to get into boiling some water, or making ice cubes - because my fridge doesn't have the fancy thing on the door. So this works perfectly - I usually just pour in some loose tea and water at night before bed, and the next night, I have amazing iced tea waiting. The filter works great when pouring. The only thing I don't love is discarding the tea, but it's the same as the gold-tone filter on my coffee maker - it's not a big deal, and it's worth the extra quality. If you use tea bags, that is a non-issue, but it seems like it probably seeps better with loose tea. I highly recommend it - it's a great little product.
