I bought a pair a few months ago and one promptly broke
with someone else roughly loading it with a couple
of heavy fiestaware besides it in the dishwasher. However, I just
love love love these cups, and use them every day for tea and
didn't really know how I could do without so
I promptly ordered another pair of mugs. Just thought I'd
read everyone else at home the riot act on how fragile
these are and how precious to me etc...

Surprise, the replacement pair are significantly heavier and
sturdier, and seem to have thicker glass on the outside
while still holding up to having boiling water poured in
to brew a personal cuppa tea. I feel more confident
around this version which has a Bodum and #3 in white letters
on the bottom, vs the etching on my earlier edition.
So go ahead and buy this with more confidence about the durability.
The coolness and utility factors were never in doubt.

i bought these mugs because i thought they were aesthetically pleasing as well as really a good idea. these statements are still both true, as i enjoyed using the glasses for the short time they lasted. unfortunately these glasses are extremely delicate. they are as delicate as expensive crystal. sadly, using these mugs to enjoy my morning coffee resulted in them lasting no more than a few days. all that it took to destroy a mug was the impact from a slight tilting onto the counter from a standing position on that same counter. the other mug shattered upon a light bump while being hand washed in the sink. it is a shame, because they are so beautiful and do really work as described. please bodum try again and make these a bit more robust?

Yes, the glass is thin and you have to be careful with them, but I haven't broken any yet, and I use them pretty often. I've used them for hot and cold beverages and they're great for ice cream too. They've been both hand-washed and through the dishwasher - no problems so far. I'll probably get more.

Yes, these are great mugs, but they are just too fragile. They are stylish, light and keep your coffee warm for quite a while. They are also incredibly fragile, to the point they are basically disposable. The first pair I ordered were broken when I received them. The second set made it fine in shipping, but are too fragile to be used. After two weeks one of them broke while it was being hand washed. I wasn't even applying pressure, but none the less I heard a "ting!" and the interior had cracked into pieces. I have one remaining and it seems to have a hariline crack in the lip, so I know it's only a matter of days. I plan to enjoy it wile it lasts, but I won't be buying them again.

Bodum, if you are listening: You have a great product with a fatal flaw. If you can make the glass thick enough to stand up to use, I think these would be really popular.

I'm giving these cups a 4 star rating because of their fragility. Like the other two reviewers stated, they are indeed very fragile. I've had these two cups for a couple of months now and they're still intact but my wife and I have been babying these two glass mugs very gingerly. Indeed they can be easily broken. If you have young kids, do NOT buy these as they're bound to get broken easily.

If you're yuppies or DINKS who are very careful with your China and glassware and you want some coffee mugs which look very modern and unique, buy these. They definitely make your coffee visually very appealing. :)

I was looking for a glass that would not heat up in the microwave when I warm up coffee. I was a bit worried when I read the other reviews here, but I have found these glasses to be excellent. I put them in the dishwasher and have banged them a few times and they did not break. And they are double insulated so that coffee stays nice and hot. And, its fun to be able to see the liquid you are drinking. I find myself using only these cups for anything hot (or cold in the summmer) I am ordering some for my parents. Give them a try!

I am now upgrading my review to 5 stars. Bodum has done a good fix for their earlier problems with fragility. I reluctantly purchased a third set after the first two sets broke and am extremely happy with these. Bodum has inserted a rubber plug in the bottom of the cup which apparently takes the internal pressure out of the mug. Great fix! My current set of mugs have lasted almost a year now and I have yet to damage either, even when the cat knocked one over. This makes these my all time favorite coffee cups. They are light, elegant and keep whatever beverage warm for a long time without transferring heat to your hands. I highly recommend these. Buy a set for you and another set for a gift. They are perfect.

I have upgraded my review from a two star rating to a four star rating.
It appears that Bodum has responded to the public. They have installed an equalizer valve in the bottom of the cup and perhaps made it thicker wall. It is obvious they have tried to fix their product's previous shortcomings.
All four of my previous Bodum cups have broken, but I love the design and feel of these cups so much that I decided to spring for another set. I'm glad I did. They remain to be the most enjoyable way to savor a cup of coffee (latte), being both attractive and light. The double wall insulation is even more effective at keeping my coffee hot than my stainless steel double walled cup with a lid. I would give a five star rating, but I've only owned this cueernt set for a week. I highly recommend them.

I have never given a negative review until this one. These are beautiful, blown glass mugs which are quite light. They hold the heat very well and a Latté (made with a highly recommended La Pavoni Europicola espresso machine La Pavoni EPC-8 Europiccola 8-Cup Lever Style Espresso Machine, Chrome) presents beautifully. They are, however, much too fragile for daily use. We got a set of two for Christmas and one was broken by New Years Eve. It is NOT RECOMMENDED if you have children or pets as the slightest ding will make them trash bin bound. If you are extremely careful, they are fantastic.

It is now mid January and the second mug is broken despite extreme care. Just a slight tink and the cup imploded. It appears that the vacuum the mug creates when it is cooled after manufacture puts too much stress on the glass. It is such a pity, because they really are beautiful and wonderful. I purchased a pair of replacements, but at the cost of replacement, they will be the last.

How about you five star people, do you still have all of yours?

I got these glasses in spite of quite a few negative reviews and am glad I did! Yes, they are more fragile than a ceramic cup, but they are not so dainty as to break at the slightest touch. They are heavier than I thought they would be and the glass seems substantial enough.

I am not overly cautious with them. I have no fear of setting them down on my slate countertops or any tables. I wash them in the dishwasher only. I don't trust my sudsy hands with wine glasses, either, though.

I have enjoyed using them for a month and have had no problems. My coffee and tea remain hot longer and I love the look of my beverages in these cups.

These definitely look cool when you pour your coffee into them, but after one wash, they accumulate water in the clear "chamber" between the seals. I guess this is due to them being "hand blown" which leaves a small hole at the bottom of the glass. Serious design flaw if you ask me, and unacceptable for glasses that cost over $30 just for 2!! Sorry Bodum, you won't be getting any more of my money.

Just received this set of Bodum Bistro Double-Wall Insulated 10-Ounce Glass Mugs. Ordered them to replace one that I had for more than a year. This new set now has an unsightly silicon plug at the bottom that seals a small hole in the double-wall design. The earlier version was solid, sealed glass--excellent craftsmanship. Needless to say, this current version is a cheaper manufacturing process and it makes the mugs look cheap, too. If the plug fails, water will likely get into the double-wall chamber (see the "leaky cups," January 4, 2011 review). If this cheaper design were priced at less than half as much, I might recommend it. However, at its current price and cheap design/look, I strongly recommend against it.
