4.0 out of 5 stars Nice mugs - but they need better packaging from Amazon
I like the look and feel of these mugs. My morning coffee looks like it's floating in mid-air, although I can't say that it stays hot any longer than in any other type of glass/ceramic mug. The glass itself is so thin it's like drinking out of a Christmas ornament, so although borosilicate glass is supposedly highly resistant to sudden changes in heat, I am not about to...

I see others had shipping problems. My problem was not with the Amazon shipment. The cups were received fine. I got the cups out of the packaging and treated them with the utmost care. The first drink I put into it the interior wall on the bottom cracked. I contacted the manufacturer, no warranty. They responded not to let ice hit the bottom of the cup. These glasses are...

I like the look and feel of these mugs. My morning coffee looks like it's floating in mid-air, although I can't say that it stays hot any longer than in any other type of glass/ceramic mug. The glass itself is so thin it's like drinking out of a Christmas ornament, so although borosilicate glass is supposedly highly resistant to sudden changes in heat, I am not about to try running these through a dishwasher.

And like just about all other reviews, I received a broken mug in my package of two. But unlike other people's experience, Amazon was quick to send out a replacement set (kudos to Amazon! - perhaps they're getting good at sending out replacements on this product). One mug was also broken in the replacement package, so it took Amazon sending me two packages of two mugs apiece in order for me to get an intact set of two. Amazon needs to pay better attention to how they package these things. Their shipping boxes have plenty of room to protect these mugs from impacts on all four side, but they aren't deep enough to protect these extrememly fragile mugs from impacts to the top or bottom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic product, October 30, 2007

The mugs are great but are quite fragile. The biggest issue is having them arrive safely. I ordered 2 sets of 2 mugs and 3 of the 4 mugs were NOT broken. Unfortunately, both mugs in the replacement box were damaged. I'm on my third attempt to receive at least one more unbroken mug before I send back two boxes of broken mugs. I will be buying these at a local retailer if the third attempt fails.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, July 12, 2009

These glass mugs are very expensive but I thought they would be worth it for their insulating properties: keeping liquids hot longer etc. Forget it. Right away I noticed that coffee or tea would cool off just as fast as with a regular mug. I then tested it very precisely side by side every few minutes with a precision thermometer over a period of 30 minutes. Guess what, after pre-heating with boiling water for 2 minutes and then again from a starting temp. of 195 degrees to around 130, 30 minutes later, the Bodum mugs kept the temperature only between 2 to 4 degrees warmer. Big deal! In other words, you can't tell the difference in reality. So if you like the mugs for other reasons, fine but the touts that "double walled, mouth blown" glasses keep liquids any hotter are "overblown" and not worth the price.Bodum Bistro Double-Wall Insulated Glass Jumbo Mug, Set of 2

1.0 out of 5 stars too fragile, November 25, 2007

Great idea, but the items came broken in pieces. Packaging seemed to be done in haste and poorly packed, so the second set Amazon sent me also was broken. I gave up and asked for refund. The oter Bodum glasses are better, as they do not have handles.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mugs are great, Amazon is awful, January 14, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bodum Bistro Double-Wall Insulated 15-Ounce Glass Mug, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
I ordered these mugs. They arrived broken. I contacted Amazon, and Amazon apologized. They told me not to return the broken glasses, probably because glass shards are not really useful to anyone and might hurt people in the returns warehouse. Amazon then helpfully sent out a replacement order, overnight express.

The next part is where Amazon gets schizo on me.

Weeks later, I get an email from Amazon informing me that they haven't received my return (duh, they told me not to return it. I still have the email). Amazon cheerfully informs me that if they don't get the original order back, they're going to yank money out of my bank account.

In a perverse twist, their email didn't include any reply-to address. I had to wade through the Amazon web site to find a place to contact them. I explained the situation, quoted their original email, and asked if they'd still like their shards of glass back or not.

It's been over a month, and no reply to my message. It gets better.

I get another email from Amazon. "Great," I think to myself, "They finally got around to responding."

Hah, not even close. No, the next robot-generated email from Amazon just explains that they still haven't received the return from the original order (the one they told me *not* to return). This being the case, they're now helping themselves to money from my bank account.

I was about to vomit with rage at this point. I bit my tongue and wrote another message via the support section at the Amazon web site (again including obvious details like the original order number, etc.) It's been two weeks and no reply. I was floored. Amazon is either completely clueless and is dropping support requests on the floor, or they're maliciously ignoring my requests for help so they can keep my $29.95. Those are my options: Amazon is either incompetent or malicious. Sigh.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was some shady retailer, but this was Amazon that I bought from. I've done tons of business with here, but this is such an appalling pattern of errors, failures, and lack of attention that I am going to have to cancel my account.

So don't buy these mugs, or anything else from Amazon.

The company seems to have overcome the packaging shortcomings that caused earlier shipments to arrived in many pieces (I got one of those too.)The mugs were worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars IMPROVED! Bodum Bistro Double-Wall 15 oz. mugs are in constant use in our house, September 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bodum Bistro Double-Wall Insulated 15-Ounce Glass Mug, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
We've been using these Bodum 15 oz. mugs for two years now, which I call my "newer" mugs. Explanation: I originally purchased three Bodum 15 oz. mugs several years ago, perhaps in 2007. I still have one of those original mugs that I keep safe from daily use and don't mix with the "newer" ones because the original one is indeed very fragile. I broke two from that same batch due to their thin, delicate nature. The "newer" ones from 2009 are much sturdier, with thicker glass. My conclusion is that Bodum has improved their double-walled glassware considerably. These "newer" ones are used daily by my husband and I for everything we drink, hot or cold, all day long. These are my personal favorite beverage containers of all time due to their beauty and function.

UPDATE: Bought two more! This is the fourth time in 5 years or so that I have purchased a pair of these 15 oz Bodum mugs. The first two were so light and delicate that I broke one almost immediately, so bought another one. The next two I bought from Amazon in 2009, (very well packaged), and these were thicker and sturdier, but I still broke one. This was no fault of the design or structure, I was simply clumsy. So, now I bought another pair from Amazon and was very surprised when they arrived. They are by far heavier and stronger than my 2009 purchase. Took me at least a day to get used to the difference. Now I don't notice it at all, but am aware that these are much more durable than the 2009 ones, so feel even more confident using them. I love these mugs, and so does hubby.

My conclusion is that Bodum has improved their double-walled glassware considerably. These "newer" ones are used daily by my husband and I for everything we drink, hot or cold, all day long. These are my personal favorite beverage containers of all time due to their beauty and function. Just hope I can go at least another couple of years before I dash another one into some unforgiving surface!

AMAZON! Please note, these are packaged well, and much stronger than previous versions! Please sell these again.

Please, unless you are a very patient person and don't need these in a hurry, be prepared to send them back and back again. They are very fragile, poorly packaged, and usually arrive broken. I have attempted to purchases these for myself and friends and they have ALWAYS arrived cracked or shattered. Please heed the other reviewers who say the same thing. Not worth the effort.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great mugs if they stop breaking, May 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bodum Bistro Double-Wall Insulated 15-Ounce Glass Mug, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
I originally ordered 2 sets. I have just requested a third replacement set. These mugs are wonderful when they aren't breaking, or losing integrity, forming condensation between the walls. Amazon and product packaging were good, and Amazon has been quick to replace the broken/defective mugs each time. It is frustrating to have to keep requesting replacements.

That being said, the mugs do a good job of keeping my coffee or tea hot. And seeing the liquid appear to 'float' is very cool.

I have 2 Bodum French presses, made with the borosilicate glass, and have never had problems with breakage.

**Update** 21 September 2008
I received 2 more sets of these mugs for my birthday, and so far, all four mugs have survived. The glass itself seems a slight bit thicker than that of the original 3 sets.
