2.0 out of 5 stars For a French Press, it drips more than a regular coffee maker.
I agree with themenz - this french press dribbles like crazy - unlike any of the other Bodums I've purchased. Bought 2, one for home and one for work. I already own about 5 presses in different sizes, but wanted one that was insulated. The insulation does work for about two hours, but the dribbling drives me batty. Not sure if the 2 hour insulation is worth the mess...

I was searching for a drip coffee maker and just couldn't decide. I wanted a thermal pot...and then I remembered about a decade ago that I bought a Bodum coffee press and had THE BEST COFFEE I have ever tasted. I bought this and Bodum's Antigua burr coffee grinder and now enjoy consistently excellent coffee. This press makes two large mugs of coffee and keeps the coffee hot for a reasonable amount of time.

To get the most out of this press, I recommend buying whole bean coffee and grinding it as close to brewing time as possible. I put in 4 "Bodum" measures of coffee (they give you a measuring spoon) and fill with water just off the boil.

The coffee made with a press is strong, yet never bitter. It has depth and character that still amazes me. No more drip brew for me!

Not sure if the 2 hour insulation is worth the mess it makes. If you're buying this expecting to serve coffee at the table, go for a regular Bodum and an insulated carafe becase you can't pour the coffee anywhere except over the kitchen sink.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, December 28, 2007

I have had this for about 2 weeks to brew loose tea. I would not recommend this product unless they fix one significant problem.

On the plus side, the maker is big so it holds three 12 oz mugs of coffee or tea. The press filter and assembly work well so no leaves enter your brew. Fairly easy to clean too and you can just pop it into the dishwasher if desired.

The maker looks great and works fast. It appear to be well built. I was surprised that the filter does not really press all the way to the bottom but that must be by design.

The double insulated feature is what sold me but that works just OK. The outside glass still gets very warm so the brew is cooling down faster than say in a thermos type jug. I wonder if they evacuated the air between the layers. I suspect not.

The handle feels a bit loose as it is only attached by the thin metal strap at the top. But it holds up even when full and does not seem like it would loosen over time. There is a screw to tighten.

Before the bad news, I should mention that the leaves pressed to the bottom of the pot continue to brew as it sits. The last cup of tea or coffee will be very strong indeed.

There is one major problem that has me considering returning this item. When you pour your first cup from a full container, the liquid dribbles down the front of the maker. I think this comes from the thickness of the double glass on the lip of the spout. So I need to pour my first cup or two over my trash can in my office or over a sink so I don't get tea everywhere. This is not good as tea stains very easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heat that lasts, January 6, 2009

We got this pot for Christmas 08 and LOVE it. I spend my mornings in a barely heated room with a temperature of 56F. The coffee stays toasty for well over an hour, even under those cold conditions.

I have read reports that the coffeepot dribbles when pouring, but mine sure doesn't. Not one drop in the 2 weeks I've been using it.

5.0 out of 5 stars no dripping here, July 2, 2009
This review is from: Bodum Shin Bistro Insulated 34-Ounce Double-Wall Glass Coffee Press (Kitchen)
I don't know if they have made recent improvements since some of these reviews, or if because the outer shell is handmade some are different than others. We love ours! No dripping, wonderful coffee, sturdy press. I especially love the no slip handle. We got a fancy coffee maker for our wedding- but we really missed the taste from a french press. It doesn't give us the 'all day' insulation of the carafe, but it gives us hot coffee for the two hours it takes us to get out the door in the morning!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, December 30, 2009
This review is from: Bodum Shin Bistro Insulated 34-Ounce Double-Wall Glass Coffee Press (Kitchen)
Within a week of use, a small hole developed on the bottom of the carafe. The hole is very small but water and condensation are now between the two glass layers, and steam hisses menacingly anytime I pour hot water into the carafe. I did not drop the Bodum or do anything else that might have broken it. The hole is obviously the result of a manufacturing flaw, but because Bodum doesn't provide any warranty for the glass portions of their products, there is no recourse available. This is the last Bodum product I will buy.

I have been buying bodum products for the last twenty years and they were top of the line, quality products. I use only the french press for my coffee and heat up the coffee in an electric water kettle. But since last year,
I have received nothing but defective Bodum products. When I returned them, the replacements were also defective. This particular coffee press has a loose handle that cannot be tightend so we're always afraid the handle is going to come loose on this Bodum Shin Bistro Insulated 34-Ounce Double-Wall Glass Coffee Pressand a steaming hot pot of coffee willcome crashing to the floor. I'm so tired of returning these things that I've all but given up.

we purchased the dbl wall 8 cup by chamboard, because we'd liked their single wall french press makers, but this one, drips, pressing action was so so, and tonight putting into the dishwasher( instructions said ok), the think outer wall broke. Chambord doesn't cover glass breakage. We're going back to single wall by Chambord.
Save yourself agony!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee, but requires adjustment to stop drippling, September 9, 2010
By

This review is from: Bodum Shin Bistro Insulated 34-Ounce Double-Wall Glass Coffee Press (Kitchen)
We purchased this french press to replace an single wall press that eventually developed a crack. The double-wall construction seemed like a good method of keeping the coffee warm without the need to transfer to a thermos. It does make great coffee, however as most have noted the coffee dripples down the outside every time you pour a cup. Quite frustrating actually. There is a simple fix- take off the stupid "chrome" cover from the top. It is only there for cosmetic reasons, but extends to far over the spout and is the cause of the spillage.

I like the look, weight and feel of the press and it does keep coffee marginally warmer BUT I've broken 2 of the glass beakers and they are expensive. If you have one, I recommend handwash only; may be save it for company. Definitely not up to day-to-day wear.
