Amazon.com Review

What a great way to make and serve iced tea! This modern pitcher with a loop handle is made of borosilicate glass, the kind used in laboratory equipment, which is lightweight yet extremely tough. When those lazy summer days roll around, here's what you do: Put a few tablespoons of loose-leaf tea in the cylindrical stainless-steel fine mesh filter, add hot water about halfway up, and let it brew to the desired strength. Remove the filter to stop the brewing process, and add cold water and ice cubes. Or, instead of tea, fill the filter with freshly cut citrus slices for infused water, or add red wine for sangria. The santoprene edge on the stainless-steel lid helps seal in freshness while the pitcher awaits guests.

Great simply as a pitcher for serving any kind of beverage, the Bodum Bistro iced tea maker holds up to 34 ounces of liquid, and measures 9-1/2 by 5 inches. All the parts are dishwasher-safe. --Ann Bieri

Product Description

iF & Red Dot Design Award Winner for 2007, The Bistro Ice Tea Jug is a genuine piece of art. It can be used 3 different ways:as a tea jug with a filter, as a sealed beverage container with a lid, and as a simple carafe to serve your beverage of choice. The 34 oz. body of the jug including the handle is made of heat resistant, ultra-light, crystal clear borosilicate glass. This is available with a stainless steel infuser. To brew, just add your favorite loose-leaf tea and fill half-way with water that is just off of a boil. Allow the tea to brew to your liking then remove the infuser and fill the jug with ice to cool and create a fresh, crisp iced-tea. Works with tea bags as well. The Bistro Iced Tea Maker is also a great infusing pitcher whether you are making infused water, sangria or juice. Dishwasher safe.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke after less than 1 month of very careful use..., January 30, 2009
This review is from: Bodum Bistro Glass Iced Tea Maker with Removable Stainless-Steel Filter (Kitchen)
I got this item as a Christmas gift from my husband. We were upgrading from a Mr Coffee type iced tea maker to avoid exposure to heated up plastics since I am pregnant. After less than 1 month of use (very gentle use, during which time we never tried to put the item in the dishwasher), the glass pitcher cracked upon addition of cold water to boiling tea. I went to the manufacturer's website and it turns out they offer no warranty for any of their glass parts. They advertise the glass to be heat-resistant and they instruct you to add ice and cold water to the boiling water - just as I did, which caused the glass to crack. They suggest purchasing a replacement glass part from them - but there is not a replacement glass part available on their website for this particular item. For $60 I was hoping to get a lot more use out of this item than 3 weeks. Either the specific pitcher we received was defective in some way, or this is not a high quality product and cannot be used as advertised.

Update - I contacted the manufacturer and they agreed to replace the product 1 time. However, they claimed in their response that you should never add ice or cold water to boiling water in glass or it will break (which is intuitive, but goes against their provided instructions for the product) and they basically claimed it was my fault the product broke. When I get the replacement I will wait until the boiling water has cooled to room temperature before adding cold water and ice and refrigerating.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy !, June 12, 2009
This review is from: Bodum Bistro Glass Iced Tea Maker with Removable Stainless-Steel Filter (Kitchen)

This is very frail; absolutely cannot pour boiling water into it! The lid comes in three parts , which don't stay together , so when you try to pour , parts fall off into your cup .The lid is permantly open to air so the tea takes up all the flavors of the refrigerator . Truly one of the worst designed products I have come across .

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome but fragile, September 11, 2009

I really love the Bodum Insulated Glasses, and that lead me to buy this Iced Tea Maker.
This Pitcher works wonderfully, but doesn't get 5 stars because it is so fragile. I'm on my second one, after breaking my first one by glancing it off of my refrigerator handle. The lid stopper, also, is not a very good design (it sometimes falls off when pouring steeply) but this is a minor point when compared with how nice the rest of the product is.
Don't buy this if you can't treat it like fine china. Do buy it if you can.

A tip: the top edge is the most fragile part, so Always have the lid in place (without the stopper) when adding ice, so the hard ice can't impact said top edge.

One more thing. Bodum should sell replacement pitchers (without the stainless insert and top pieces) for those that do break theirs.
