Product Description

Color: Red

First of all, knives are one of the most important tools in a kitchen. For some people they even become an obsession. Understandably so, because after having worked with a state-of-the-art knife there is no going back. Secondly, knives need to be handy - right there on the kitchen counter for easy access and yet safely stored at the same time. The Bistro Knife Block does both beautifully: it keeps your everyday paring, utility, chef's and bread knives handy and safe. The inside of the Knife Block is made of a myriad of very fine plastic sticks allowing any knife to sit anywhere in the block - tight and secure. The block's casing is made of plastic and its silicone feet anchor it firmly. It comes in black, red, green, orange, white and purple, making it easier than ever to match any kitchen's color scheme.

Customer Reviews

It looks great on the counter: very modern and sleek.

I really like this Knife block as you can fit loads into it and you can choose where to put different size knives as you are not restricted to slots.
Gillian Farrelly
It looks great on my counter with its sleek design and doesn't take up too much space.

I've had those wooden knife blocks-- couldnt get all my chef's /santoku knives in.

And then I upgraded to one of those wooden blocks with the black rod inserts-- I could put more variety of knives in, but still couldn't put that many, and the rods would break within the block and slowly you couldn't fit even the knives you had in there before back in. They just kept sticking out higher and higher even though it was quite deep. Eventually the side split open.

And now, this Bodum knife block. At last! So like the one I mention above (I think I had gotten mine at superstore), I could put a great variety in this one. AND, since the outside isn't wooden and rigid, when you stick a knife in, the slide poofs out a very little bit. You can't really see it, but that flexibility lets you put knives in and not run into limitations on how many you can put into the block due to space left between the rods! You are limited by space of all your handles and being able to grasp the right knife, but that's it!

We've purchased 2 of these knife blocks into which we've put 4 chefs/santoku knives, 2 bread knives, a cleaver (which I never managed to put in a knife block before), a tomato knife, 3 paring knives and a small santoku! I also a pair of kitchen shears and I have a rod knife sharpener in there. The latter sticks up (too long) but everything else fits right in.

I've only had these a couple weeks but I love them already. I read on some other reviews that the plastic rods come out and can be washed in the dishwasher. I didn't try that yet, but BONUS!

Oh! and the red color is quite nice. I would have prefered something more subtle but so far they only come in electric colors and black.

This is a fantastic item. Love the colour, design is great, takes up less counter space and can fit at least 10 knives, more if they are small. No slots, just a material that allows the knife to slip into place which makes it so much more versatile. Much better than those wooden blocks.

Hopefully I'm not violating some warranty that I'm unaware of but I've got the following stuffed into this thing:

Global G-12 (6.5" blade) cleaver
Forschner Fibrox 10" blade chef's knife (on a diagonal)
Wustof 8" serrated bread knife (diagonal)
2 Forschner Fibrox 8" blade chef's knives (diagonal)
Wustof 8" chef's knife (diagonal)
Wustof 6" chef's knife
Wustof 8" carving knife (diagonal)
3.5" paring knife
2 kitchen shears

The block looks cool and doesn't dull my knives (unlike a wood block). The best part is that it holds all of them with the exception of a 12" slicer which gets to sit by its lonesome in the drawer, sheathed in plastic to protect it.

I don't get the concern by some over ergonomics (i.e. the angle of the handle)... I've never dropped a knife when pulling from the block AND you can actually enter the knives on an angle allowing for more of the blade to be covered. Those that said you can't do that are wrong.

On the plus side, it is red (or in a variety of other colors) and the concept of the plastic rods works well to hold short knives (longer knives stick out due to the length of this product). It is truly easy to slide them right in and out rather than dealing with a conventional knife block where you are guessing which hole to put the correct knife in. However, another company had this exact same concept, the same price point, but executed it better (minus the fun colors). I owned the Kapoosh knife block (same plastic rod design) before I owned the Bodum and I must say that knife blocks are meant to be angled. The Kapoosh model I own has two different sections which holds more knives than the Bodum as well. The benefits of an angled knife block is not only to see them easier, to pull them out and put them in easier but also to make sure that longer knives aren't sticking straight up hitting the cabinet above (I know a lot of houses have cabinets above their knife blocks, but not everyone, so this is only a problem for some of us). Until Bodum comes out with an angled version, I am sticking with the Kapoosh in its boring black.

As others have mentioned, this is not something that you will be using to replace your good old wooden knife block, but it's a great addition to any kitchen. It's not the right size for my large chef's knife, but for my smaller serrated knife, steak knives, paring knife, etc., it's really handy. Each knife slides in and out smoothly, but I still prefer my angled wooden knife block. The price is a little much for what this is as well; if it was at least $10 cheaper, it would be a much better deal.

I just love this knife block. Have a tiny, tiny kitchen and had my steak knives and utility knives in two separate, mismatched knife blocks taking up way too much room. Had room to consolidate 12 knives of different shapes and sizes. Love the slim, modern design - it receives lots of compliments.

After years of using a traditional wooden block, we bought 2 of these to store our collection of about 8 knives. Very happy with them so far. They occupy less space on the counter, look very contemporary, and allow us to store knives of all shapes and sizes, including a cleaver. I believe they are more hygenic too, as the plastic sticks can be taken out and washed, and don't accumulate bacteria like a wooden block would do. Knives can be arranged at an angle, or vertically. Perhaps the only complaint would be that larger knives, if stored vertically, don't go all the way into the block...they protrude a little bit.

But all in all, excellent, and for a good price. Will buy more if we need more knife space!
