Bodum’s Brazil press utilizes unbreakable polycarbonate for its carafe, which makes this model an excellent choice for campers, students, or travelers who like to make fine coffee on the road. The press method is considered by many aficionados to be the best way to make a perfect cup of coffee, since no paper filter absorbs and removes the essence of the flavor. To make coffee with the press, remove the plunger/top ensemble, add coarse ground coffee to the glass carafe, add hot (but not boiling) water, stir with a spoon, and position the top and plunger in place. Allow the coffee to brew for about four minutes before slowing pushing down on the plunger. Pushing too hard or too quickly may cause hot liquid to squirt out. The domed lid features a slotted spout cover for pouring. To clean, simply scoop out the used grounds and pop the entire unit into the dishwasher. The Brazil works on the same principle as all coffee presses. It combines coarse ground coffee with water that is just off of a boil. This combination along with 4 minutes of extraction time allows the oil and acids that give the coffee it's flavor to be completely extracted so you get a balanced and flavorful cup of coffee each time. After 4 minutes, just press and enjoy. There are no paper filters to soak up the oils, and cleanup is a snap. The 8 Cup Press is 32 oz and yields 8 - 4 oz.cups of coffee.

Unbreakable if the water isn't too hot,

Mine is actually starting to melt a little. The bottom is getting little bubbles. It's leaning to one side as the base slowly caves in. Still, I think it will last as long as any glass press I've ever owned, the price is good, and for an office coffee press where the hot water on the water cooler (not a kettle right off the flame) is the hottest water it will be exposed to it's perfect.

Bodum Stands Behind There Product,

I purchased this french coffee press because of the "unbreakable" aspect of the product description. But over a short period of time, but a lot of use the french press developed a crack in the bottom of the beaker. I decided to seek out the corporate website and see what they would do to correct the crack. They e-mailed me with 24 hours and told me to call their 800 number in NY and ask for a new french press. I thought they would only send a replacement beaker, but they sent me a complete french press. How odd I thought a company actually standing by their product and not sending me to the store that I bought it to ask for help? Then I found out that Bodum is not a US manufacturer. That answered my question.

Full coffee flavor without the hassle of filters!
We have been using our Bodum coffee press daily for about 6 months & haven't experienced any cracking, melting, gasket breakage, etc. We generally use boiling water from a teakettle right off the flame, too. I hand-wash it daily & put it in the diswasher about once a week to get it really clean. Perhaps Bodum has had some quality-control problems by the look of some of the other reviews; if that's the case, we got lucky & got a good one.
