5.0 out of 5 stars Bodum Stands Behind There Product
I purchased this french coffee press because of the "unbreakable" aspect of the product description. But over a short period of time, but a lot of use the french press developed a crack in the bottom of the beaker. I decided to seek out the corporate website and see what they would do to correct the crack. They e-mailed me with 24 hours and told me to call their 800...

3.0 out of 5 stars Unbreakable if the water isn't too hot
Mine is actually starting to melt a little. The bottom is getting little bubbles. It's leaning to one side as the base slowly caves in. Still, I think it will last as long as any glass press I've ever owned, the price is good, and for an office coffee press where the hot water on the water cooler (not a kettle right off the flame) is the hottest water it will be...

But over a short period of time, but a lot of use the french press developed a crack in the bottom of the beaker. I decided to seek out the corporate website and see what they would do to correct the crack. They e-mailed me with 24 hours and told me to call their 800 number in NY and ask for a new french press. I thought they would only send a replacement beaker, but they sent me a complete french press. How odd I thought a company actually standing by their product and not sending me to the store that I bought it to ask for help? Then I found out that Bodum is not a US manufacturer. That answered my question.

Full coffee flavor without the hassle of filters!

We have been using our Bodum coffee press daily for about 6 months & haven't experienced any cracking, melting, gasket breakage, etc. We generally use boiling water from a teakettle right off the flame, too. I hand-wash it daily & put it in the diswasher about once a week to get it really clean.

Perhaps Bodum has had some quality-control problems by the look of some of the other reviews; if that's the case, we got lucky & got a good one.

1.0 out of 5 stars This press pot sucks!, January 5, 2006
This review is from: Bodum Brazil Unbreakable 8-Cup Coffee Press, Black (Kitchen)
I have been using a press pot for more than 15 years. It is still good and I only replaced the plunger parts once in all that time.
This press pot sucks compared to the glass beaker Bodums I own. The bottom is melting and I never use boiling water. The whole thing is leaning to one side. This one is only 3 weeks old!

The plastic plunger makes it very difficult to press down the grinds. I also noticed I have more than the usual amount of sludge in my cup.

I recommend getting a glass Brazil or Kenya pot. Or, if you want a better looking pot get the Chambord but forget the plastic one unless you want to take it camping or something like that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not entirely unbreakable, February 6, 2005

The 8 cup "unbreakable" coffee press worked like a champ for 2 weeks until I decided to clean out the black stuff that had accumulated under the gasket in the filter ring. The gasket ripped as I removed it and now I get some coffee grounds in my cup of coffee when I pour it from the Bodum. I have contacted Bodum since I can't find a replacement gasket and am awaiting response.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!, June 27, 2005

The press is great and if you are person who drops dishes while washing them or is clumsy, you will want to get this press due to it's "unbreakable" nature.
However, if you use the press on a daily basis with really hot water, it will develop cracks in the bottom and begin to leak. I guess based on the review written back in August of 2004, Bodum got flooded with requests for replacements. Now they have changed their policy and they do not warrant the beaker against cracks, nor do they replace it for free. The website does not even sell the polycarbonate "unbreakable" beaker and when I called the NY store, they said they only had one left in stock. I had to pay an additional $11 to get the new beaker (although they did wave the shipping cost).
If you're going to use the press everyday, or with very hot water, you may as well get the glass and just be careful. Otherwise be prepared to buy a whole new press (which at this price isn't so bad but certainly a pain).

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, April 5, 2005

I just bought the Bodum Brazil 8 cup coffee press. This is WAYYYY too cool! The coffee came out great! I bought it to use at work because I am sick of the crap coffee here, so I thought, this might be easy to use at my desk and sure enough it was. I just used the hot water button on the water cooler, and brought in my own course ground coffee (Pete's Coffee) and followed the directions. It is awesome! I would recommend to anyone! I bought mine at Target for $14.99.

1.0 out of 5 stars Agrees with Buyer Beware warning, September 17, 2005
This review is from: Bodum Brazil Unbreakable 8-Cup Coffee Press, Black (Kitchen)
I had the same experience as an earlier reviewer in that the press cracked and leaked. We asked Bodum for a replacement to this "unbreakable" coffee press, but they declined stating that the term "unbreakable" is meant as a marketing gimmic, and that we weren't meant to think the beaker would not break even under normal use. We never dropped the press. Also, the plunger itself was difficult to press, especially compared with other Bodum models and different brands.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can microwave it!, April 3, 2005
This review is from: Bodum Brazil Unbreakable 8-Cup Coffee Press, Black (Kitchen)
I bought this item several months ago because I am clumsy and I didn't want to worry about breaking the carafe. I am so pleased with it. After heavy use I have had no problems, and I actually really like the way the screen is one piece. With the original press that has the coil and screen the grounds would always get stuck in between when I tried to clean it. The biggest advantage for me was when I discovered I could pour the water into the carafe and put it into the microwave. It is so easy, and eliminates the need for an extra measuring/microwavable cup! I just marked with a permanent marker on the carafe where the 12 oz. of water should come to and that was it. And of course the coffee is consistently wonderful.

This is the 5th french press I have owned.I use it every day at work,on the railroad,so the unbreakable is needed.I had a bonjour unbreakable that was complete garbage. The Bodum is cheaper and has lasted through various conditions,I use mine for yerba mate, which is harder to clean out,but the Bodum has lasted and lasted very impressed with this model. The plastic press is usually not as good as wire mesh and glass models, but if you need unbreakable, this is a very close 2nd option.
