5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic!
I was in NYC earlier this year on business, and I was served an espresso in one of these glasses. It stayed hot for at least 5 times longer than a normal glass and I immediately bought 4 when I returned home. I use these every day; they are utilitarian and beautiful - perfect design in other words.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice design, misleading size
I own some of the larger Bodum glasses and have been pleased with all of them. However, these glasses are far too big to be practically used as espresso shot glasses. The review claims they are 3oz glasses, though they can actually fit 4.5 oz to the brim. A double-shot of espresso takes up less than half of the available volume. These are great little glasses for espresso. They are about 3 oz., so I use them when pulling double shots. The extra ounce allows some room for drips or for pulling the double long. No heat comes through to the outer surface of the glass so you don't burn your fingers and the shot stays hot longer. I love using a transparent glass to show off the crema - it looks like a mini pint of Guiness!

The outside of the glass itself is significantly more than twice the size of any other actual 3oz shot glass. The glass filled with espresso as shown on the box must be roughly 4oz of liquid.

They are nicely designed and nothing is physically wrong with the glasses as long as your are gentle. They are perfect for espresso macchiato.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever, January 30, 2007
This review is from: Bodum Canteen Double-Wall Shot/Espresso Glasses, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
These are rather plain glasses, however I chose this variety for two concerns, and have not been disapponted. First, the other bodum double wall products are rife with reviews from people who have broken their glasses. I felt that while the Pavina style was more aesthetically appealing, it also looked as though it might slip from a soapy hand more easily. While that is strictly fancy on my part, I can attest that the Canteen glasses can be handled without undue fear of butterfingers. Somewhere someone mentioned that they wouldn't put this type of glass in a dishwasher, and this is true. It is very light, and I expect it would get blown around like tupperware is wont to do.

The second reason I chose this style was that it was in a 3 oz. capacity, and I intended to use it for tea as well as espresso, and I just couldn't vizualize sipping tea out of a 2 oz. glass.

The insulative properties, while present, are probably not as significant as the hype would suggest. The exterior glass definitely stays cooler; you won't burn your fingers. The beverage temperature, however, does cool noticeably. I would guess these glasses to be about as effective as or slightly less than expanded polystyrene. Definitely nicer to look at than styrofoam glasses, but don't expect performance like an insulated thermos.

Overall, I was pleased enough that I purchased a couple sets of the larger glasses as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The way espresso was meant to be drunk, February 11, 2009

I love these glasses. I considered the Pavina model, but preferred having 3 oz. as opposed to 2 oz.

I drink triple shot espressos, Americanos, or macchiatos generally, so this size is perfect for me.

You can also easily determine the quality of the shot based on the level of cascading crema produced.

They shot stays hot longer, but your hand stays cool. Just be wary that you may not expect the liquid to be so hot and approach your beverage cautiously! :)

I received an espresso maker for Christmas but no Espresso cups. After using regular mugs and ending up with cold Espresso rather quickly, we decided we needed some Espresso glasses. These are very affordable and do an excellent job at keeping the espresso hot while we eat breakfast. They are light-weight, easy to clean, and cool to look at.

I've used these for espresso for a few months now, and I love them. They provide a stylish way to serve espresso while keeping it hot. I have had no problems with washing them in the dishwasher, and none of them have broken.

2.0 out of 5 stars They leak, August 14, 2010

I have bought a set of different Bodum Canten Double wall glases, and within the first month of light use water has leaked inside the double wall through the silicon valve, so some of the glasses have steam inside, or are full of water. It looks dirty and I am not using those anymore. I have tried heating the glasses to see if the steam leak out and its still not good. I really love the glasses so I have contacted Bodum in order to get an answer on how to fix the problem

4.0 out of 5 stars hard to pour from, August 2, 2010

These are really nice glasses, aesthetically pleasing, durable (remember, hand wash and no microwaving), HOWEVER, the lip of these glasses is quite thick (being double-walled) which makes it a bit difficult to pour the contents into another glass (for a cappuccino, for example). The espresso would much rather follow the lip around and pour down the external surface.

Knowing this I'm just a little more cautious and pour quickly and decisively. Show no hesitation! Perhaps this is the way with all shot glasses, I'm not sure, as these are the first I've owned. Other than the problem pouring I love these glasses. Watching the espresso and crema pour in is almost like watching art in progress.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice glass, May 2, 2009
This review is from: Bodum Canteen Double-Wall Shot/Espresso Glasses, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
I have had these glasses for almost a year and I love them. They are great for a double shot of espresso and they are not as fragile as some early reviews have said. They are like lab glass, so they're somewhat thin but I wash mine in the dishwasher no problem so far (knock on wood).
