This pitcher does what it says, but after using it for a few months I have to wonder if this pitcher is special enough to warrant the price. The 'pull in-pull out' compartment that holds tea bags or lemons is nice. But the plastic is so thin after a few uses it starts to warp out of shape. If youre not supposed to pour hot water in the pitcher, what is the point of using it? I really like the slim-ness of the pitcher overall (fits in the fridge well), and I don't mind its small capacity, but its overall fragile build leaves me wishing the manufacturers would have just created something more sturdy. I'd say someone is better off just brewing tea in a regular tupperware pitcher for half the price.

not what i expected,

i bought this teamaker because i interpreted the description to mean that it somehow brewed iced tea more easily than the usual boil-the-water-cool-it-off method. i found that the overnight in cold water method recommended makes really uninteresting tea. i started using the traditional boiling water method.since i bought this two years ago, i have had none of the problems more recent users have mentioned. the plastic on my model seems quite sturdy, so i suspect even bodum has succumbed to cheap manufacturing in the interim. as a convenient pitcher to cool and store iced tea in, its nice. and removing the tea leaves after brewing is simple with the insert--no need to juggle two containers and a seive. but it certainly isn't a clever, easier way to make iced tea.

A decent low cost choice,

I owned this for several years (many of which was spent in storage) until I gave this away to a friend. This is probably decent for a light tea drinker, but given the amount of tea I drink on a daily basis (8-10 cups per day), it just did not work for me. Also, the holes in the "so-called-strainer" are too big - I got a lot of sediment when I brewed loose leaf tea. I've since moved on to a stainless steel mesh strainer which produces much better results. In fact, what I've been using for years, I bought right here at Amazon. It's the "Bodum Teabowl". It's quite a bit more expensive (when I bought it 3 years ago it was $59.99 - now its $99.95) but I've used this thing every day since, and all it needs to stay looking new is a good cleaning from time to time. But, if you're a casual tea drinker that doesn't care about extra sediment in your tea, this is a decent low cost choice.

Slow Leak,
By A Customer

I liked the product until it showed a small split in the bottom and developed a slow leak after only a few uses. Perhaps the plastic doesn't tolerate boiling water as well as it should.

Nice and handy, at a good price!,

A nice product--I have the 50 oz. version, and bought 2 more as gifts. It STILL isn't big enough! No recipes or instructions in the box, but here are instructions from Bodum's website:We enjoy a natural and sensual drink for what it is and not for what it has been turned into through domestic science and obscure ingredients. Nature itself provides the most delightful tastes, and tea is one of them. Making ice tea in a natural way may not be as fast as opening a bag of powder and mixing it with water, but if you are conscious about what you fill your body with, the Bodum Ceylon Ice Tea Maker is a true, relatively simple to use, alternative. Add your preferred tea leaves into the filter. Pour 3 to 4 oz of boiling water over the leaves, and fill the jug with cold water from the tap. Close the lid, and leave the tea jug in the fridge overnight. The next morning you will have a tasty iced tea. If you want it really cold pour the tea into glasses filled with ice. The SAN plastic tea maker holds 50 oz and will fit in most fridge door shelves, and we don't need to say that it is dishwasher safe.

Does what it claims to,

Does what it claims to, elegantly, but small leaf particles get through the filter. Takes time for tea to brew.

Love it!!!!!!,
This review is from: Bodum Ceylon 51-Ounce Ice Tea Maker with Filter (Kitchen)
Works really really well ... would not recommend it with loose tea, tough, as the small leaves can go through the holes unless you like to choke on them :-) Great with bags ... or larger leaved teas.

I love loose leaf tea and drink a lot of it. When I began my loose tea adventure, I was delighted to come across this pitcher. What a great idea! I can make a whole pitcher of tea in one go!
Don't let the looks or the idea get the better of you. The holes in the diffuser are quite large, and the broken bits of leaf escape, resulting in what I call Debris Tea. Of course, that is really only an aesthetic problem. What makes this product so confounding and disappointing is the long, long narrow shape of the infuser. Wait till you try to clean it. The leaves stubbornly stick inside. I've tried inverting it and smacking it against my hand - leaves stuck. I've tried poking a meat fork and long-handled spoons in it. Can't get all the leaves out. So of course, I tried rinsing, and rinsing and rinsing. I figured those big holes that let the tea out while it's brewing would facilitate rinsing the leaves away. I was wrong. I've tried using small amounts of leaves with the same results. It's just impossible to clean the infuser. It's like a Hotel California for tea leaves. Don't waste a nickel on this nightmare of a product. Bodum does make other teaware that performs satisfactorily, some items quite well.

Not Worth It For The Gimmick....,

Super fast shipping, but for a lousy overpriced pitcher that doesn't perform it's primary duty! I could have bought a bigger & cheaper acrylic pitcher. The "infuser" leaks all kinds of particles which ruins the whole batch. This thing is tiny!! Southerns' make large batches of iced tea & this pitcher wouldn't hold enough for a small family, let alone 2 ppl trying to have iced tea during the day.
