Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Bodum, renowned for its classy coffee presses, also produces an exciting range of options for tea drinkers, including this Ceylon iced tea maker. Looking like a popular filtered water pitcher, the slim, oval-shaped Ceylon features a straining lid, sturdy handle, and, most importantly, a removable infuser that holds loose or bagged tea, as well as fruit or vegetable slices for making infused water or wine. Because the plastic pitcher is transparent, contents and strength are quickly viewed. The Ceylon holds approximately 50 ounces (1.7 liters) and is designed to fit compactly into a refrigerator shelf or door.

To brew iced tea, Bodum recommends placing seven tablespoons of loose tea into the infuser, then filling halfway with nearly-boiling water. After steeping for three to five minutes, remove the infuser to stop the brewing process. Fill the rest of the pitcher with cold water or ice cubes. Or, add only cold water to the same amount of loose tea, and brew in the refrigerator for 12 hours. To make infused water (or wine, for sangria), place slices of lemon, lime, cucumber, strawberries, fresh peeled ginger, or even sprigs of lavender into the infusing chamber, fill with ice cubes and cold water, and serve after approximately five minutes. Easy to use and resulting in healthy drinks, the Ceylon is made of SAN plastic that will not absorb odors or colors. Bodum recommends washing the pitcher and infuser by hand, and includes a free sample of Ginger Peach tea from the Republic of Tea brand for your drinking pleasure. --Ann Bieri

Product Description

The Ceylon iced tea jug from Bodum combines fashion with functionality. To use, simply add the appropriate amount of your favorite loose-leaf tea into the filter (also works with tea bags). Fill the pitcher one-half way with hot water just off of a boil. Allow the tea to brew to your liking then remove the filter and fill the pitcher with ice. Serve and enjoy. The Ceylon works with both hot & cold brewing methods. The durable SAN plastic will not hold flavors allowing you to brew different teas without affecting the taste. Hand washing recommended. Nature itself provides the most delightful tastes, and tea is one of them. Making ice tea in a natural way is fun and easy. You can experiment with your own tea blends and mixtures. The Bodum Ceylon Ice Tea Maker is simple and fun to use. The Ceylon doubles as a water infusing pitcher. For refreshing infused water, just add your favorite fruit or vegetable into the infuser chamber. Fill with ice and add water. Once the flavor has been infused into the water, remove the infuser and serve. This version includes a bonus sample of Republic of Tea's bestelling "Ginger Peach Tea" so tha you can brew your first pitcher on us!

3.0 out of 5 stars Make Hot Tea--Add Cold Water, July 31, 2007

This review is from: Bodum Ceylon 51-Ounce Iced Tea Maker with Removable Infuser and Bonus Tea Sample (Kitchen)
The Iced Tea Maker is great for what it is. However, I could never access any instruction info on Amazon. It wasn't until I received the item that I found the method used to make the tea--You make half a pitcher of hot tea, then add water or ice to chill. It's a good product; I just didn't have full knowledge before. The item is certainly more civilized than the appliance Iced Tea Makers I was trying to avoid.

Love this pitcher's ease of use - it does just what it needs to without additional fussy gadgets. Plus the slim design makes it very easy to fit in the fridge. Have already recommended it to several of my friends who also love iced tea!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best method to keep a constant supply of fresh iced tea, April 4, 2008

This item sparked my interest as soon as I saw it so I bought one and (don't you love it when this happens), it was better than I'd hoped.

I drink iced tea pretty much daily in lieu of soft drinks or fruit aides. I've tried a number of methods over the years to maximize the number of times when I can simply pour a glass from the fridge vs. spending time to prepare before partaking. This is the best solution I've found. Whenever I pour my last glass from the pitcher, I take the short time it takes to add some loose tea to the removable filter and (OK, this makes it easier for me) fill the pitcher half-way from the near-boiling water dispenser at our sink. I set the stove timer for five minutes and go about my business. When the timer goes of, it takes all of 30 seconds to dump the soggy tea leaves down the disposer, fill the pitcher to the top with cold water and replace it in the fridge. One important suggestion: dump the tea leaves as soon as you remove the filter from the hot water. If you set it in the sink to deal with later, the leaves will swell and make it much more difficult to empty. (BTW, I wound up writing this review for the 51-ounce model as I came to the site to order the 102 ounce model. Twice as big is bound to be twice as good, right?)
