Product Description

There is nothing more indispensable--even among your most important kitchen tools--than good knives. They are the unmistakable sign of a good chef at work, as only the right sharp knives make for excellent results and are fun to chop, cut, and garnish with. When the Bodum design team studied chefs both in the home and in professional kitchens, we observed that a lot of them actually hold their knives partially along the top of the blade instead of strictly on the handle. We also observed that the common knife can't accommodate different ways of holding it. Our solution: a bolster between the blade and the handle for more comfort and a more accurate grip. This comfortably thick bolster with its concave oval top is a perfect resting place for either forefinger or thumb, depending on the chef's preference and task at hand. The bolster is designed at an angle toward the handle so that the pressure point straight underneath it is actually the end of the blade. This makes for enhanced transmission of energy and a very comfortable working experience. Bodum Chef line knives are handmade of the finest Japanese blade steel--molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel--and are hardened to a Rockwell hardness of 57. The handle is cast in 18/8 stainless chrome steel and has a special die-cast texture for a nonslip grip. Bodum Chef knives should be sharpened regularly and should never be placed in the dishwasher or left in a sink with water. For best results clean them with a damp towel and wipe dry. The nine-piece professional-grade chef's knife set features a 10-inch chef's knife, 9-inch bread knife, 7-inch santoku Japanese chef's knife, 6-inch boning knife, 5-inch tomato knife, 5-inch well-rounded utility knife, and 6-inch all-purpose knife as well as a powerful, space-saving magnet for hanging your knives.

Bodum 5 piece set April 19, 2007
By Othmar
I rarely write reviews but this product irked me so much I had to write. I bought it for 60.00 on the gold box deal and it arrived yesterday. Either it was used (alot!) or a messed up set that left the factory. Every blade had serious pattern and surface defects. It looked like it was covered in vaseline and left to acquire dust and dirt--but it turned out that it apparently was supposed to look that way. The smudges couldn't be washed off. I returned the product. Maybe I just got a defective set, but Bodum shouldn't put his name on this poor quality. I can't imagine someone paying full retail. Bodum should stick to coffee presses and the like, which I love. Also, this set was made in China. Not pleased.

Amazon really needs to put a little quality control into what they sell. Like one of the other reviewers, I bought BODUM knives with a gold box sale and when they came, they were so dull I had trouble cutting and onion. Definitely returning. Don't buy these -- they're worthless.

I think claims like these would have gotten the two countries into war in the old, old days.

"Finest Japanese blade steel" on all the knives... but, on the box there is a clear plastic label that says (hold your breath) "Made in China."

I think Amazon should make it clear just where these are from. I think they are good knives... and I bought the five piece set for $60 on the Gold Box deal. No doubt they are worth that much... but, more? I don't know...

The 9 piece set is also dull and stained/ but I will keep it.
These are very odd knives. It is almost as if they missed the final stage of manufacturing.

They will arrive very dull, and not polished with some stains. Read more
