I rarely write reviews but this product irked me so much I had to write. I bought it for 60.00 on the gold box deal and it arrived yesterday. Either it was used (alot!) or a messed up set that left the factory. Every blade had serious pattern and surface defects. It looked like it was covered in vaseline and left to acquire dust and dirt--but it turned out that it apparently was supposed to look that way. The smudges couldn't be washed off. I returned the product. Maybe I just got a defective set, but Bodum shouldn't put his name on this poor quality. I can't imagine someone paying full retail. Bodum should stick to coffee presses and the like, which I love. Also, this set was made in China. Not pleased.

Amazon really needs to put a little quality control into what they sell. Like one of the other reviewers, I bought BODUM knives with a gold box sale and when they came, they were so dull I had trouble cutting and onion. Definitely returning. Don't buy these -- they're worthless.

I think claims like these would have gotten the two countries into war in the old, old days.

"Finest Japanese blade steel" on all the knives... but, on the box there is a clear plastic label that says (hold your breath) "Made in China."

I think Amazon should make it clear just where these are from. I think they are good knives... and I bought the five piece set for $60 on the Gold Box deal. No doubt they are worth that much... but, more? I don't know...

I bought it for 59.00 on the gold box deal and it arrived yesterday. I returned the product. very poor quality, poor finish, dull right out of the box.

These are very odd knives. It is almost as if they missed the final stage of manufacturing.

They will arrive very dull, and not polished with some stains. If you have a decent sharpener and get some stainless polish you can remedy both problems.

I am puzzled by the reviewers that blame this on their Chinese manufacture. I have a lot of Chinese products including other knives (all the big names make their products in China now) and the finish work is first rate.

They are very handsome knives and sharpen well. The magnetic holder is very well finished. At the retail price they would be returned at once with a nasty letter. At less than $100 they are a deal if you do not mind sharpening and polishing.

I bought the 5 piece set offered in the Gold Box. The ones shipped to me are in excellent condition. They hold to the magnetic bar and do everything I expect in a knife. I cook everyday. I am pleased with my purchase and the cost was a great deal.

I thought these would be great for myself and if so, I was planning on ordering a set for my friend's wedding present. They arrived, and they were dull and the handles are not very comfortable. The magnetic strip was cool, but overall they are rated low by everyone else on this site because they are right!!! I returned them.

I had read the reviews and noted that the knifes need to be sharpened prior to use... so I had them sharpened at my local ACE hardware store. The cost to sharpen was $2.00 a knife. I am using the knifes and I am pleased.

I must admit I was hesitant to click on "Buy", after reading the reviews about how dull these knives are. Do people know how to sharpen a knife? The set came in faster than I expected, well packaged and ready to use. I sharpened the knives (as one should always do) and started to use them. What a surprise! They are well balanced, nice and heavy and incredibly sharp. I can't believe anyone would ever say these are not good knives. And at that price? I should have bought two sets! Buy them while they last!!!

Like others here I bought the 5 piece set on the gold box deal. What junk. These are made in China knives that can be had for a dime a dozen at any discount retailer.
