5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful item but be informed of small size
Picked up this press recently and love it. As I am the only coffee drinker in the house (except when family or company arrives) this is perfect for me. Be aware that it only makes 1 large cup of coffee. If you want coffee for more get a larger size. So for one mug of coffee its great. I anticipate using it for travel and it should be perfect with no glass to break...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too small
I bought this item for my husband, since he is the only coffee drinker in the house and only drinks one mug of coffee a day. I had previously bought the 12-cup one, based on the other reviews, so that if we have company he can make more than one cup. The 12-cup was too big for one mug, but the 3-cup was too small. He said he filled it to the top, but didn't get a full...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic french press!, December 3, 2006

This review is from: Bodum Columbia 12-Ounce Stainless-Steel Thermal Coffee Press Pot (Kitchen)
I bought this for my wife a few years ago and we love it! Coffee stays hot at least 45 minutes if not an hour (I mean drinkable hot - not just lukewarm). Just be sure to place the lid on top of the press while you're waiting for the coffee to seep (seems obvious, but worth noting).

The press itself has a polyurethane (I'm fairly sure - could be silicone) lip on the edge of the filter rather than the stainless steel mesh that you see on the glass press pots. Although we have used this thing hundreds of times, I haven't had any problems with the filter or the pot.

All in all, this thing is one tuff dude. Highly recommended!

I love my Columbia coffee press because:

1. No more broken coffee presses and wasted money!
2. It keeps water at an ideal temperature while brewing
3. It keeps brewed coffee hot--just push plunger down and drink coffee when you're ready
4. It's the perfect size for me since I drink 8 oz. of coffee every morning, and that seems to be it's limit.
5. It's cute!

My issues with the Columbia are:

1. The base is too small for the width and weight of it so that it tips over easily.
2. They call it a 3-cup when it's really a 1.5-cup (12 oz.) container (although I bought it knowing this thanks to other reviews which warned me of the fact).
3. It doesn't empty well--I have to put pot upright, then pour again several times to get most of the coffee out.
4. I feel like I should be able to press the grounds completely, but with 2 tablespoons of grounds at the bottom, the press still doesn't completely reach them. And if the press should really be able to hold 12 oz. of water (so I could use 3 tablespoons of grounds), I haven't been able to get more than 8 oz. in it.

Despite it's flaws, I haven't been able to find a better pot.

He said he filled it to the top, but didn't get a full mug of coffee. I assume this mean his mug is 16 oz. So, if you like a big mug of coffee,I would recommend the 8-cup version of the french press. Other than the size, my husband loves it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for!!!!, December 12, 2005

This review is from: Bodum Columbia 12-Ounce Stainless-Steel Thermal Coffee Press Pot (Kitchen)
I bought this press months ago, use it daily and LOVE IT!!! I even travel with it. There are cheaper presses out there, but the quality here is worth it. I love that I don't have to worry about glass breaking or being hot. The metal acts as an insulator.
Clean up is a breeze. I bought a press travel mug before this one and it was more difficult to clean, and add milk and sugar. I had to add the milk and sugar before the hot water and I felt the cold milk worked against the ability of the hot water to brew out the flavor. So I tried this one. Also, adding the milk to a separate mug and drinking out of that keeps the press cleaner.
This press also does a great job at keeping the fine particles down to a minimum. I grind the coffee on a coarse setting.
It says 3 cup, but I get one regualr size mug of coffee out of it. Which is exactly what I was looking for. There are larger sizes to serve more people if that's what you need.
I would highly recommend this little mug or one of the larger sizes. The quality is excellent. It looks great and is so much smaller and cleaner than one of those clunky-on-the-counter machines, not to mention the coffee tastes better.
There is one down side to using a press versus a machine. You have to separately heat the water. The extra work was worth it to me but if you happen to have a hot water dispenser at home or work, this small obstacle is eliminated. I have one now, and the speed with which I have a tasty cup of coffee ready is amazing.

4.0 out of 5 stars I should have read the user reviews -- beware of small size!, February 1, 2006
This review is from: Bodum Columbia 12-Ounce Stainless-Steel Thermal Coffee Press Pot (Kitchen)
This is a lovely press, very well made and beautifully designed. I read the description ("3-Cup") and assumed that this meant the press could make 3 cups of coffee (at 8 ounces each). That is not the case! This charming little press holds just a cup and a half of liquid, or 12 ounces. That's enough for one mug of coffee. So you might want to consider the larger 8-Cup model, which I am guessing by extrapolation that you may get 3 actual cups from.

This has to be the best French Press ever made. Keeps in the warmth and best of all is unbreakable. It may cost a little more but I have two of these that have gone around the world with me several times and still are in great shape turning out great coffee. Warm it up before you start and you'll have lovely coffee that stays hot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adorable, but small, September 24, 2005
This review is from: Bodum Columbia 12-Ounce Stainless-Steel Thermal Coffee Press Pot (Kitchen)
This pot really only makes one large cup of coffee (Bodum's idea of a "cup" is only 4 ounces). But the coffee is absolutely delicious! And cleanup is a snap.

I've finally found the coffee pod I've looking for. This press keeps the coffee hot and fresh. I usually pour in the hot water first to warm up the pot before I make my coffee. Makes 1-2 cups of coffee only.

This is a beautifully made coffee pot that is easy to clean. It keeps the coffee hot for a fair amount of time. My only complaint is that the lid is not "thermal" and it could keep coffee warmer longer. I have owned many presses and I've gotten tired of replacing the glass carafe. I would reccommend this pot for other butter fingers out there, too.
