Great French Press for the Office,
By MSUSpartanFB (Huntington Beach, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bodum Double-Wall 16-Ounce Thermal Plastic Travel Coffee and Tea Press with Bonus Tumbler Lid, White (Kitchen)
I have a 34 oz. glass press at home and love it. My wife bought this for me for my office and I was a little skeptical about the plastic version. But I can tell you after using it for the first time this morning, it is almost as good! I ground 25g of coffee at home before heading to the office. Once I got arrived I added 16 oz. of hot water out of the coffee maker. Stirred the grounds down from the top crust using some stir sticks, waited four minutes and viola! Fresh, strong coffee that is 10 times as good as the office variety! Some one else mentioned chewing on coffee grounds. If you are careless that will happen. It happens because the very top opening of the cup is slightly wider than the gasket around the press. So when you first put the press in the cup, the coffee rushes up over the edges of the press and deposits the grounds that were stuck to the side of the cup on to the top of the press. Here is what I recommend. Press it once. Remove the press, rinse it off and then press again. No more grounds will be in your coffee.
Pros: Super sturdy double walled plastic cup Awesome portability Cons: Need to "press, rinse, press" to avoid grounds in your cup Overall a great item, but for $20 I would be tempted to get the real 34 oz. glass Bodum instead.

Temperature tested and I'm imPRESSED,
This review is from: Bodum Double-Wall 16-Ounce Thermal Plastic Travel Coffee and Tea Press with Bonus Tumbler Lid, Black (Kitchen)
TEST:
Poured 195deg water in to start After 15mins: water temp was 158deg After 35mins: water temp was 145deg After 65mins: water temp was 133 deg and cool enough to drink - I think the best drinking temp is between 130-135deg. After 95mins: the water temp was 119 deg. The Bodum keeps your coffee closest to the ideal drinking temp for a long time. even after a few hours, the test water was warm and good to drink, not cold. I own a separate brand of aluminum travel coffee mug and that keeps the coffee too hot for too long, even with the top off. I'm convinced the plastic model is the way to go if you want to drink hot coffee within 3hrs of making. The metal Bodum would be best for scalding coffee for the first 2hrs and hot coffee for the next 5hrs.

Would be better if...,
This review is from: Bodum Double-Wall 16-Ounce Thermal Plastic Travel Coffee and Tea Press with Bonus Tumbler Lid, Green (Kitchen)
I really like the aesthetic of this travel mug. The design in functional with good seals that never leak. My only complaint is that, even with course ground coffee, too much of the ground coffee escapes to the chamber above the press, no matter how careful you are when you press. I don't know if I just got a bad one, but I don't like chewing on coffee which unfortunately what I have to do every time I use this. If they can correct this issue, I would love this mug. Until then, it is sub-par.
