Amazon.com Review

This 4-cup coffee press is so handsome, you'll want to display it front and center on the kitchen counter, not hide it away in a cabinet. Its striking modern lines are a fitting tribute to Eileen Gray, the Irish designer and architect who adopted the cafés and salons of Paris as her home. The elegantly patterned stainless-steel frame is easy on the eyes but also protects the glass jug within, and the squared handle is easy to grip even when the press is full of boiling water. The French press brewing method prevents scorching of the beans, and because there's no filter involved, all of the flavorful oils stay in the drink. Simply measure out one rounded tablespoon of coarsely ground coffee per 4-ounce cup, pour very hot (not boiling) water over it, let the contents brew for at least 4 minutes, then slowly depress the plunger. This particular press even includes a coffee scoop and a timer to make the brewing process easy. --Mary Park

Product Description

Eileen, Bodum's professional coffee maker, was conceived not only in honor of the great designer Eileen Gray (1879 ' 1976), but for all the coffee connoisseurs who frequent the bistros and cafés of Paris - Gray's adopted city. Discerning coffee drinkers know that few coffee makers are capable of revealing the full taste and aroma of high-quality coffee beans. Not only is the Bodum Eileen professional coffee maker one of the very few to meet their demanding requirements, but it is also specifically designed to withstand the exacting conditions of busy bistros and cafés.

For five decades, Bodum has created elegant and functional coffee makers to the highest standards, turning coffee making - and coffee drinking - into a uniquely pleasurable experience. The Eileen coffee maker is no exception to the rule: the famous Bodum brewing process was thoroughly reconsidered, paying particular attention to the tough conditions to which coffee machines are subjected in restaurants. As a result, the Eileen coffee maker incorporates a number of new handling and safety features - the fruit of Bodum's unrelenting search for better and safer products.

In a bustling café or restaurant, bringing an excellent cup of coffee to the table depends not only on the quality of the coffee itself, but also on a coffee maker that is designed with practicality in mind. The Eileen coffee maker is equipped with an easy-grip, santoprene-coated, square handle, ensuring safe and convenient handling at all times - even when carrying two coffee makers in one hand. A solid stainless steel frame protects the glass jug from bumps and knocks while being carried to and fro, through revolving doors, and past other hazardous obstacles but does not conceal the appetizing, freshly brewed coffee held inside.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not quite great., November 1, 2003

This review is from: Bodum Eileen 4-Cup (2 US cups) Coffee Press (Kitchen)
This product makes very good coffee, and is probably the most attractive "press" style coffee maker out there. The metal surrounding the glass bottle is pretty, and is also meant to protect it against accidental breakage. It also adds to the price.

However, the metal absorbs heat, so the coffee does not brew as hot as in Bodum's own 8-cup model. This diminishes the delicious flavor a bit.

This is the press to get if you want looks and good flavor, but the 8-cup model is for you if you want the very best flavor. I own both, so I am confident in making this comparison.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, October 29, 2002

This review is from: Bodum Eileen 4-Cup (2 US cups) Coffee Press (Kitchen)
The Bodum Eileen 4-cup Coffee Press is the perfect way to make just the right amount of coffee for one or two people. In regards to the other review, I don't agree that the heading is misleading. I have never seen a coffee pot or maker that listed the number of cups based on the 8 oz measuring cup. In coffee terms a cup is usually 4 or 5 ounces per 'cup'. The number of cups is really the number of regular servings not fluid ounces. And with that in mind this product is perfect for making great coffee with out brewing a full sized pot which most of sits to long to enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars All 'cups' are not equal..., October 13, 2004
This review is from: Bodum Eileen 4-Cup (2 US cups) Coffee Press (Kitchen)
The Bodum french press cups are describing European cup sizes (4oz) and not the American cup (8oz). Bodum sells to an American market & the sellers should be made aware of describing ounces along with numbers of 'cups' when advertising to avoid confusion for the purchaser.
