Donate, give away, or throw away your electric coffee maker.,

Using this french press yields an outstanding cup of coffee! Efficient to use, quick and easy clean up, very little extra time or effort from making your morning brew with a drip type maker. This unit is well made, durable and fashionable. Consider purchasing this if you grind your own beans and like strong coffee that is of consistant and high quality. Unless you have or are going to purchase a quality coffee mill, don't buy this or any other french press...you'll likely be disappointed at the results. I recommend the Starbucks Barista Burr Grinder (made by Solis) (...).The price on this 8-cup model doesn't deviate by more that a couple of bucks amoung retailers, so I bought at Amazon and if I ever need parts, I can buy direct at Bodum's web site. As Bodum doesn't "outdate" their products every couple years like other mfg's, you should have piece of mind knowing that you'll not have to part with your french press if something tragic happens to it. Enjoy excellent coffee.

Elegant and brilliant--but with a design flaw,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bodum Eileen 8 Cup French Press Coffeemaker, 1.0 l, 34-Ounce (Kitchen)
Once you have coffee from a "french press" you'll never go back to a drip machine again. The flavor is so rich, so intense, so good that you'll think you're drinking hot chocolate. Of course, there are drawbacks too: unlike a drip machine, a french press doesn't keep the coffee warm for hours (you should only drink fresh coffee anyway) and it's harder to clean. Also, there's no point using a french press unless you use top grade (read, expensive) coffee beans and grind them yourself (...). As for this model specifically, it's gorgeous. If you love good clean modern mid-century design this is the only Bodum model for you. One warning: there is a serious design flaw to the Eileen model and it's the little round rubber piece that you press down to plunge the coffee. After about six months of daily use, it wears thin and a metal screw will break right through the rubber and into the palm of your hand. Ouch!...

The Art of Fine Coffee,

If you're ready to try a French press, Bodum's Eileen model is absolutely gorgeous! You can enjoy a fine piece of art and a perfect cup of coffee at the same time.
First, let me say that a press makes fabulous coffee. The principle is simple. Put some freshly ground coffee in the glass beaker; add boiling water straight from the kettle, stir, wait a few minutes, then press the plunger to take all the grounds to the bottom of the carafe. You'll have a hot, rich, lovely brew. The typical drip coffee maker doesn't seem to get the water hot enough to bring out the full flavor of the beans; percolators keep boiling the coffee and can turn bitter; and home versions of espresso machines are very expensive. When you add the boiling water to good coffee in a press, watch the crema start to form and smell the glorious aroma. Perfection! My only reservation about this model is that the Eileen frame, while absolutely beautiful, doesn't seem to hold the carafe as snugly as the Chambord model. Although the carafe doesn't seem in danger of slipping out of the frame while you're pouring, there is definitely extra room there. I'd also be careful with the plastic knob on top of the plunger. The clean up isn't difficult - everything comes apart and goes into the dishwasher. If something does break, Amazon carries standard Bodum replacement parts. One more tip, if you want your coffee with milk served hot, just put a glass of milk in the microwave for a couple of minutes. That way can add all the milk you like without making the coffee cold. If you really want to go all the way, check out some of the milk frothers available on Amazon. It's an inexpensive gadget that turns skim and lowfat milk into a decadent, creamy foam. Ahhhhh....life is good!

This is my second one in the last decade. If you like ice coffee, this product is GREAT! Just let your coffee steep overnight, press in the morning & pour over ice & voila - home made ice coffee!

I'm a coffee lover and I like it fresh, so for this reason I tried many coffe makers (including several french presses) but in my opinion the best way to get the best flavor of your coffee beans is using one of this, a press.
However, I tried many brands, some times using those "unbreaklable" glasses made of polycarbonate that after some time they look dirty with scratches and keeping odors. So I decided to buy the Bodum Chambord French Press (12-oz 3 cups or 1 mug) and after two months of being using it I just can say it was so great that I decided to buy a bigger one to have a cup of nice coffee for my friends when visiting me. Having in mind that the Bodum Chambord worked fine I decided to buy one of the same brand (after checking some other brands...well, you never know), so I got this because the price-quiality ratio is really high, but I got mine in red/cherry color (I bought it, half its Amazon price, from a local store). And again no complaints at all and I' very happy with this french press. It is easy to clean (hand wash or dishwasher), the glass is actually glass and no plastic that keeps a disgusting smell like old coffee. But I think the most important feature is that the filter (and all its parts) fits perfect, so you won't complaint about big and disgusting sediments in your mouth, just the normal sediments that you usually find at the bottom of any regular cup (mug) of coffee. I'm so pleased with this brand that I have two Bodum french presses that I can recommend this brand.

I have only used French presses to make really good, strong coffee for years and Bodum has the very best French presses (I have three sizes). The other's seem like cheap copies of the Bodum and are not equal in quality or style. I've seen the Bodum Eileen 8 Cup French Press in retail stores but thought that it was too expensive. I had been thinking about buying another Bodum for a large family dinner I was hosting, then I happened to see the Eileen in a magazine and did a search on Amazon. Low and behold Amazon had it and at a special affordable price! The weight and ergonomics of the handle are different and better than the classic Bodum French press. I think that because the polished metal "cage" covers more of the glass insert, it will be more durable. After it was delivered, I wondered why I waited so long to buy it. I love it!

It is very functional, clean lines, it looks great sitting out in my kitchen. I had a cheap one that fell apart, so I invested in this one and I really love it. Nice and sturdy, easy to clean. The price was very reasonable.

We use our french press every morning. It works great! And when it's just sitting on my counter not being used, it looks great too!
