4.0 out of 5 stars Aesthetically pleasing and great to use.
I have been searching for the right coffee mug/glass for a few years and these are everything I wanted. They keep 16oz. of coffee hot for 20min. or so, which is just long enough for me. They don't have a handle to cramp my hands and they stay cool enough to keep a good grip on them. They are easy to hold and the rim feels good on the lips. The glass is only about as thick...

1.0 out of 5 stars beautiful glass but seriously high maintenance
We purchased 4 glasses at Christmas. They keep liquids cold and hot. They are nice to look at, and we still have one left a month later that isn't chipped or cracked. After the first glass cracked we made insane efforts to be as delicate as possible with the remaining 3. I would wash them carefully by hand making sure not to bang them into anything and let them air dry...

1.0 out of 5 stars beautiful glass but seriously high maintenance, January 24, 2007
This review is from: Bodum Pavina 15-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Large Glass, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
We purchased 4 glasses at Christmas. They keep liquids cold and hot. They are nice to look at, and we still have one left a month later that isn't chipped or cracked. After the first glass cracked we made insane efforts to be as delicate as possible with the remaining 3. I would wash them carefully by hand making sure not to bang them into anything and let them air dry. The next time we would go to use the glass it would have a crack in it. We are still scratching are heads as to why the cracks happened and what we could have possibly done differently to prevent it. These are just way too fragile, and that is just about over $70 straight to the recycling bin.

1.0 out of 5 stars doubled walled trouble, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Bodum Pavina 15-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Large Glass, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
While the design is beautiful and sufficiently insulated, the glass walled structure is too weak to withstand normal use. Even when I avoided placing ice cubes, spoons, etc. in the glass, my Bodum Double Wall glasses lasted only a week. I don't recall ever having a problem with other Bodum products, so I am concluding from this experience that this is a very flawed glassware design from this company. In terms of quality control, one of the glasses actually had a pin hole leak at the base of the glass which caused water to seep between the walls. In a cautionary note, you need to return this item if you find any small holes in the glass, because the water trapped between the walls of glass will eventually cause the glass to explode.

The glass is only about as thick as a nice wine glass so I hope they are as durable as they are supposed to be. The first set I ordered wasn't packaged properly and arrived broken. That's the only negative I can see, but the replacements were shipped out very quickly and were packaged much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two star delivery, five star function. Great glasses, but...., July 11, 2006

This review is from: Bodum Pavina 15-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Large Glass, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
...the concerns about shipping and breakage are true. I've ordered two dozen Bodum glasses of this type through Amazon and have had 4 of them arrive either broken or defective (the defect is typically the hole in the bottom arrives unsealed, which allows water to enter between the layers of glass when they are washed) Amazon replaced them no problem, though I had no breakage/defects in shipping the replacements. They function superbly- there's no condensation and they insulate well for hot and cold beverages, but beware with hot drinks- there's almost no tactile feedback through holding the glass to indicate the temperature of the contained liquid. Also, I experimented with a defective glass and discovered they are not as fragile during use as some have suggested- I believe they are stronger than regular single walled glasses. I wash mine in the dishwasher without incident. I highly recommend them if you're willing to tolerate the possibility (or should I say probability?) of having to return broken glasses for replacement.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Useless, November 14, 2006

These glasses are a prime example of design over function (and a woeful example of the state of quality control these days).

They are elegant but one of mine broke the first time I dropped an ice cube into it. Who wants a glass that can't withstand an ice cube?

If you must own one I recommend using it only for hot drinks, for which they are ideal, but then you still must be careful while washing it, while putting it away, while taking it out, while setting it down, etc.

In my opinion they are simply too fragile for use, and too expensive to be considered disposable.

While I love the idea of insulated glassware, these may be the most fragile glasses I have ever owned. Both broke in less than a week.

Try the Tropix or Tervis instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't cook it, August 9, 2006
This review is from: Bodum Pavina 15-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Large Glass, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
Don't dry one of these on the top shelf of your dishwasher. Check closely around the rim when they arrive also. Coolest beermug in the world but a little fragile at the rim.

I've had these glasses for a few weeks now. Loved 'em, told eveyone about the design and thermal advantages. I'm a long time user of the plastic Tervis brand, and I was happy to see these. They add an elegance to the concept. However, when pouring in tea last time, one shattered. I hope it was a fluke, but now I don't trust them with hot drinks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best., March 11, 2007
This review is from: Bodum Pavina 15-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Large Glass, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
A little pricy - but well worth it!

Keeps cold liquids - cold, and hot - hot.

It's always surprizing when I pick up the glass and it feels room temp but the drink inside is ice cold. No condensation, ever. I clean these in the dishwasher (being careful to keep them separated so they don't bang against each other) and haven't had any problems.

Drinks always look interesting suspended in the air. I've got 20 of them in various sizes. This is the only glassware I'll ever want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Drink With All Your Senses! The Functionally Perfect Glass., February 21, 2008
This review is from: Bodum Pavina 15-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Large Glass, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
The Bodum Pavina glasses are beautiful. Each one is mouth-blown to form a clear one-piece glass chamber that holds your drink. Since it's clear, your drink appears to be floating in the glass. Cool point #1.

Cool point #2 especially for those of you living in hot places: It doesn't sweat. You know what I mean here? When you put really cold liquid in a glass and condensation runs down the outside and collects in a puddle at the bottom of the glass. That looks attractive on a Coke or Beer commercial, but not great for your desk or nice table!

Cool point #3: You can put hot drinks in the Bodum Pavina and the glass doesn't get hot. Because of the double-wall construction there's an insulated layer of air between the glass you touch and the glass that holds your coffee. Like a plastic thermal mug it stays warm a long time (also cold when you pour in something cold), but it's oh so beautiful.

Now to address some user complaints. Users have universally complemented the design and "cool" factor of the glasses, but some complained about them breaking. I've been using my other set of Bodum Pavina glasses all day, everyday for nearly two years. I finally broke one in May 2007, after 14 months. I start with cold water in the morning, followed by hot coffee. More water later. Some ice coffee or a Coke in the afternoon. All fine. It's thin, but tough glass. However, you've got to be sensible: just because the company says it CAN be washed in the dishwasher, doesn't mean you should. Throwing rock-hard ice into a glass and then stirring briskly with a tablespoon just isn't smart! How tough are these glasses? From readers' comments not as tough as a regular heavy drinking glass but with a little caution they are plenty strong enough.

The Bodum Pavina are the functionally perfect drinking glass that so beautifully shows off your drink. Now you can drink with all your senses!
