This is the second version of this stirrer that I have owned. The previous black plastic version lasted several years with daily use. I anticipate that this newer design will do so as well.
This new metal cased stirrer feels a bit more substantial in the hand and the brushed aluminum case is a bit more secure in your grip than the original plastic case item was if you have wet hands. The stirring attachment at the end of the wand is updated from an "impeller" design to a coiled metal ring design. At first I was not happy that my new stirrer would be different in this way, but with the first use it proved to be a superior mixing apparatus. It mixes the beverage as throughly as the old style did, but does so without creating the whirlpool effect as quickly. Therefore, short bursts with the stirrer will completely mix your beverage without the tendency to overflow. Of course, if you stick it in there and turn it on uninterrupted, you will make a mess. Technology can do only so much to help you. Batteries last well in this (it uses AA's) and the base seals well to keep moisture out. It's not perfect, but easily acceptable. My only improvement wish for this item would be for an included wall mount of some sort that the user could hang the item on after use so that the wand could dry without moisture running down it and into the motor base (as happens when it is stood on it's base after use). Over time, that little bit of moisture each day causes enough corrosion of the motor contacts and switch contacts that the item will fail. Figure out how to store it upright and it should last forever.

We love making our own lattes. One down side is that the motor inside died after six months on our first one.
