I bought several sets in both small and medium sizes a couple weeks ago, and I've already lost two! I saw it coming as soon as I unwrapped them. Not only are they extremely delicate, but they broke into about 50 shards of glass. I'm giving them two stars because they are beautiful and Bodum never claimed they were strong, just heat resistant. But they just aren't worth the price.

.. that didn't break in shipping. they are beautiful glasses but seem too fragile for shipping. about 1 in 5 glasses had broken in shipping.

I splurged and bought eight of these glasses about six months ago, and I now have one left. After the first one broke, I was careful to only hand wash these glasses, and I learned not to use my ice maker directly, as the ice drops into the glass too hard for this glass to sustain. Instead, I put the ice in one glass and then carefully transfer the ice to the Bodum glass. Also, my glassware got cloudy fairly quickly, even though Bodum claims this won't happen.

HOWEVER, in spite of all these issues, I'm going back to buy more, because the fact that these glasses simply don't "perspire" and never need a coaster is such a plus. No more dripping water on my clothes or furniture. Just know what you're getting.

Can't say enough good things about the Bodum thermal glasses -- we have several sizes, with and without handles (handles not necessary!) and have given them as gifts for years, with raving thanks. They hold up well in the dishwasher, & work for hot and cold drinks alike. Not to be sexist, but women are particularly grateful for them, having husbands and sons who don't know what coasters are for. The only caution I offer is to stick with Bodum. We've purchased less-expensive brands, and they were NOT thermal: there were holes in the bottom which caused condensation between the walls, as well as allowing water in while in the dishwasher.

I bought a couple just to test them after reading some reviews of people having them break. If you use them as an ice-scoop, maybe. I threw out all my other cups and bought like 6 pairs of these. I bought the bigger ones too. They stack and help avoid cup clutter in the cabinet, yea you know what I mean. Just get these trust me. If you're drinking out of plastic cups, toss them. Water and anything tastes much better cold and in glass. These wash beautfully in the dishwasher too. Another bonus - they don't sweat so you don't need a coaster - ever again.

Great for stacking in your cupboard (3 high in my space), keeping things cold and 'not' your hands, and attractive. But they are a bit on the fragile side and I think the glass is a bit thin, so be careful.
